WASHINGTON — Soon after arriving in the nation’s capital, Rep.-elect Brad Ashford found himself at a dinner for House members where he noticed something odd.

The GOP lawmakers who came through the door weren’t sitting down. Instead, they were cutting through the room on the way to their own dinner down the hall.

In Washington, Ashford noted, even meals break along party lines.

“It’s nuts,” Ashford, a Democrat, told The World-Herald. “They don’t even have dinner together. It’s just bizarre.”
