http://news.yahoo.com/peter-king-eric-garner-obese-i-cant-breathe-video-044205429.html;_ylt=AwrBTzx1R4BUxLEARKNXNyoA>>>>Rep. Peter King defended a New York City grand jury decision not to indict Daniel Pantaleo, a white NYPD officer, in the chokehold death of Eric Garner, an unarmed black man, during an arrest on Staten Island in August.
"You had a 350-pound person who was resisting arrest," King told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "The police were trying to bring him down as quickly as possible. If he had not had asthma and a heart condition and was so obese, almost definitely he would not have died from this."
"People were saying that he said seven times, 'I can't breathe.' But the fact is, if you can't breathe, you can't talk," King continued. "If you've ever seen anyone resisting arrest, I've seen it, and it's been white guys, and they're always saying, 'You're breaking my arm, you're choking me, you're doing this.' Police hear this all the time.">>>

(2,710 posts)Police are trained first responders, they know how to gauge a person's vital signs. They chose to ignore them.

(51,311 posts)Why didn't the police err on the side of "Hey, maybe this guy is telling us....HE CAN'T BREATHE"?!?!?!?!
Plus, the A**H*** KING, as an alleged human being (if not sapiens sapiens), knows as well as the rest of us that we say "I CAN'T BREATHE" when we are STRUGGLING to breathe, when we still HOPE TO BREATHE BETTER.
It isn't the same as choking, when, if happening, one cannot speak.

(16,254 posts)to hold him down and/or in a choke hold because, once he was down, he wasn't going to get up and run anywhere. There is no way he could flee with that many cops around, not to mention getting up at his size.
How does it happen that 4-5 cops were available for an arrest of someone selling cigarettes, anyway?

(31,849 posts)NYP officers are NOT supposed to put people in choke holds.
THEIR rules.
That officer broke the rules of his job.
FIRE his ass now! Fuck the police union. Fire his ass.

(17,621 posts)For most of us, What is the quickest way to get fired from your job? Break the rules! Especially rules that are in place for safety reasons! Unless, of course, you are a cop.

A pox on all cruel, agenda and power-driven people who treat the murder of others as no big deal.
King, I hope you have the worst holiday season ever, and that your entire life goes to shit.
If you weren't such an asshole, I wouldn't say it.

(9,527 posts)And since that is what caused the problems he was having at that point, that's a far better place to start, especially since the choke hold was against police procedure.

(22,336 posts)What idiots. He might have survived an illegal chokehold if he had weighed less, therefore it's OK to kill him after he communicates his difficulty breathing by putting him in an illegal chokehold? There aren't using logic. They're grasping at straws, desperate to excuse this killing, even if what they say makes no sense.

Creepiest opinion on why it's okay to beat up on an obese person cause then you can blame it on the victim for being fat.
Peter, go to hell.
