I'd come to believe that the election of our next ruler hinges on a dog on the roof of a car, a musician who supposedly shit his pants 40 years ago, a woman who won life's lottery and never had to beg for a job, and especially a guy whose religion should be no more an object of ridicule than the guy who currently holds the ruler's office.
I hope arguments about who should get the vote improve on those things in some way between now and November.
In '04 and '08 it seemed like there were cogent arguments about who should get the vote. Today, a quick perusal of DU shows just what I pointed out...
Ted shit his pants!
Ann never had a job!
Seamus rode on the roof of the car!
Mitt's a Mormon!
Really? Is that all there is?

(30,439 posts)Why are you only focused on attacks against Romney?
This alien seems to have a bias problem.
Leave Romney alone, says the alien!

You go right ahead with that dog on the roof and she ain't worked a day in her life though... if you think that's all it takes to win a presidential election.
Me? I think it's going to take a lot more than an aging rocker who claims to have shit his pants.
I have yet to see anything of substance intended to impress undecided voters.
He pissed himself! He's a friend of Romneys! Vote for Obama! Yeah, that ain't workin'. Seen the polls lately?

I hope all extraterrestrial life isn't that foolish. Maybe it's just this alien that doesn't pay close attention.

Or not. I notice that you don't include a cite in your post...
All I'm hearing about is dogs, pissed pants, and silver spoons. That's all anyone else is hearing about as well if they venture into DU.
That's not going to cut it.
And, if you haven't figured out yet that I voted for Obama in '08 and plan on voting for him again, you're not paying attention. You might even be a little bit stupid. I'm guessing my addition of "might" might not keep this post from being alerted on and hidden... but ya gotta say what ya gotta say.
I'm sorry if I'm too critical for your sensitive self... I'm a realist. But in your rush to defend President Barack Obama, you're overdriving your headlights... which is no surprise at all.

(30,439 posts)informing me that it voted for Barack Obama to try and prove its bona fides...like I even believe it or care.
The alien clearly has trouble reading otherwise it wouldn't keep asking for information that is readily available.
Funny that.

(18,186 posts)This alien is rather selective in its DU perusals.
I read arguments for Obama's re-election every day on DU. With nary a word mentioned about Irish Setters, magic underpants or Cat Scratch Fever in the text of those arguments...
This alien is obviously VERY new to politics, if it truly believes that, up until this election, Americans only discussed the meaningful attributes of the candidates.

But people are talking about them, because most people have real problems and cannot afford to worry about that kind of trivia.

Um, I hate to break this to you, but we aren't electing a "ruler."
I also must note that you must have only recently been paying attention to politics.
The people hoping to land the presidency have a long history of inspiring the most inane national conversations.
JFK's Catholic faith, Jimmy Carter's brother's doings...oh, just go back all the way to Washington and you'll read the media of the times pontificating on the most mundane and irrelevant aspects of the politicians of the day.
it's what people do, and they do the same thing all over the world.
