That show "Lockup" on MSNBC gets very high ratings.

We're a diseased culture that views justice as revenge and enjoys seeing people suffer. Most Americans have no problem with the death penalty even though practically all the modern civilized democracies of the western world have banned it. Most Americans have absolutely no problem with torture. Americans don't have any problems with Gitmo. Most Americans relish in the fact people are raped in prison and regularly joke about it. And we constantly elect politicians and prosecutors and sheriffs who say they will tough on criminals and push for longer and longer prison terms.

And yet despite all this, most Americans think the USA is a leader in human rights in the world.
