We are seeing a repeating series of very co ordinated protests, across the country, with a focus on "shut it down" actions.
I am impressed.

It's usually something RELATIVELY benign (the first intifada in Gaza began over a non lethal traffic accident, as an example)...
We might be real close to that in America. It will be interesting to see if out of control police forces are treated as the problem, or as a SYMPTOM of something greater, which is what they really are.
Solidarity, and may Angles and Ministers of Grace defend us.

(60,010 posts)The protests have been going on for days now and if anything, they are getting bigger, more locations..
Denver High school students walked out of school this afternoon in protest.
The word "Genocide" is being used now, on signs, in Tweets.
Also seeing signs "the system is the problem", which is telling.
And the Police Depts, as well as morans like Guilliani, insist on fanning the flames with insulting tone deaf public remarks.

(29,503 posts)This could be that point when the pendulum starts swinging STRONGLY in a left direction, and well it should, IMO.
It was a police beating over corrupt robbing of a drug dealer.

(10,272 posts)they'll calmly walk over to downtown (in the case of St Louis, Clayton), and without so much as a harsh word, burn the fucking County Courthouse to the ground.
After that, all bet are off, because the only response THEN, WILL be the calling out of some kind of National Police Force (State or National Guard, Federal Marshall's Service, whathaveyou), and after that it won't be long before there IS blood on the pavement, and so much so that even suburban upper-middle-class housewives figure out that something ain't the way it's supposed to be, = WAAAAAAYYY too many people in the crowd that the cops DON'T want to shoot.
THAT'S what a tipping point looks like. And If I were a cop, I would want to avoid that like the damned PLAGUE.

(60,010 posts)The protesters are no longer just marching down a street, they are "shutting it down" by taking over transportation systems like Grand Central Station,
freeways, bridges, even the Staten Island ferry terminals. Some have gathered en masse in front of police stations.
Minuses the torches and pitchforks, it is still very chilling to see, from a Reich Wing point of view.
And it is coordinated, all across the country.
btw....you can bet a lot of people in the South getting anxious about that whole "black thing" that seems to be happening.
I find it delightful.
brer cat
(24,578 posts)this "whole 'black thing'", but in reference to the recent murders of black men, teenagers and children by white LEOs, and protests of same, why would people in the South be more anxious than people in say New York, Missouri, Ohio, Arizona, New Mexico? The only good news I have seen lately was that a grand jury in South Carolina actually indicted a white police chief for killing a black man.
There are too many bigots in every state, and too many bad LEOs as well. We need to concentrate our efforts on how we can outvote the former and enforce justice and accountability on the latter, preferably nationwide.

(35,688 posts)Mind-boggling! I think the report said every bridge in/out of Manhattan except for one was shut down.
Another report quoted the (?) DA saying that the tape actually served to the officer's advantage. He said they went over it in "excruciating detail." Then they showed the tape and the woman who taped it talked about it. After seeing it again, I find it hard to believe it could work to the officer's advantage.
I just don't understand how they think people are going to buy this crap.

(60,010 posts)Mass protests at police station in Arizona because of yet another killing ???
There were large protests to night in Seattle, Oakland, Boston, Chicago, and DC, with protesters shutting down traffic on major roads.
And there were multiple mass protesters at several key locations in NYC>

(60,010 posts)Demonstrators blocked sidewalks and streets around Congress at evening commute time, people in the buildings were kept inside by their own fear of the
peaceful demonstrators.
This was the intent of the "shut it down" aspects of the marchers in several states, to disrupt traffic areas.
Many groups also went into local malls and the stores closed in reaction.
CJCRANE
(18,184 posts)I assume. You didn't specify the city that's why it might be confusing for some posters.
