I know sometimes people here get upset about claiming things are a mental illness and I too generally hate the term but bigotry of any kind is used as a way to make one somehow feel better about one's self and seems like a real illnesses to me.

And our country is greatly infested with bigotry of all kinds.

So is bullying in my opinion. Not sure why you have a problem with that.

because most of the so declared mental illnesses are actually just illnesses period. By that I mean they are often produced by chemical changes in the body/brain that can be detected.

I certainly wouldn't be the least surprised to find that 'bigots' in general have some form of detectible differences in chemicals or brain scans.

Wasn't it once suggested that homosexuality was an illness? And yet, I am suggesting that bigotry is the real illness and you are questioning it.

I doubt the people that 'changed' their views actually ever were bigots. Betting the vast majority of them simply accepted what they had learned and quite willingly accepted the truth when the learned it.

The same might be true of anyone growing up in a household that is taught any other type of bigotry but goes out into the real world, works with the same people and changes their views because of what they have learned.

The bigotry I am speaking of is the kind that refuses to be unlearned because the person derives a psychological benefit from the bigotry. That makes it an illness.

I remember seeing Paris mention in an interview, maybe ten years ago, that she was raised Catholic (and she claimed to be religious). Where do people get ideas like this?

I've never understood antisemitism. I never heard the ethnic slurs or stereotypes of Jewish people growing up -- ever. I was in college before I started encountering a lot of that stuff, and even then it was in literature, not from people around me. Because of that, I grew up believing antisemitism was history, and it's always jarring to me to hear about things like this. I don't understand how so many people can still think/feel that way.
