But experts in New Zealand say Natasha Harris' 2-gallon-a-day Coca-Cola consumption "probably" contributed to her death. The soda company responded to the alleged connection by noting that even water consumption can be fatal in excessive amounts.
"The first thing she would do in the morning was to have a drink of Coke beside her bed and the last thing she would do at night was have a drink of Coke," Harris' partner Chris Hodgkinson said in a deposition. "She was addicted to Coke."
Hodgkinson testified that Harris drank between 2.1 gallons and 2.6 gallons of Coke every day.
The 30-year-old Harris died of a heart attack in February 2010. According to New Zealand's Fairfax Media, pathologist Dr. Dan Mornin testified on Thursday that Harris likely suffered from hypokalemia (low potassium levels), which he believes was caused by her overall poor nutrition, including the unusually high levels of Coke consumption.

For many years I drank a case and a half of coke every week. I also smoked at least a pack a day since my teenage years. Fortunately, I was able to quit both going on 5 years now. I do think this could have easily been me.

(50,566 posts)I'm sorry, but that is f'ing STUPID and IRRESPONSIBLE. She wasn't malnourished because of poverty, she was malnourished because of stupidity and probably delusion. Now her kids' mom is dead. What a waste.

(31,011 posts)There were probably warning signs as well and she ignored them. Maybe it was because she knew she would have to quit if she went to a doctor. She was afraid. Fear can make people do stupid things.
I'm not trying to justify. I had this kind of mindset before I stopped my coke and smoking. It was easy to ignore what I was doing to my body because I was afraid. It took a health scare for me to shake myself out of it.
People will smoke and drink themselves to death. What happened to this woman was no different. The same could be said of alcoholics and smokers.

(8,317 posts)4 cans and up to 10 cigs a day. I eat mostly healthy. More cheese then my doctor would like.
But hey, what's living for if all you can eat is sawdust?
After thinking about it. WOW 2 gallons a day.

(8,244 posts)I'm totally addicted to coffee. I can see how someone else could be addicted to coke. But that's just crazy to drink that much coke.

(8,317 posts)2 gallons a day I'd be peeing my brains out. And not able to hit the bowl because of jitters.
more then a pack a day, my throat would be sore.
