Lately, I've been getting very slow response times on DU. I've always had this problem on Huff post. I am on Verizon DSL, do not have anything faster in my neighborhood.
Also, many times after 'returning' from a post, (from Latest Threads), I end up having it go back sometimes as much as an hour. I do a 'refresh' and it goes back to the current time.
I'm on Windows and Microsoft web browser.

(13,110 posts)They bought out Verizon.
I have always had a problem with Huff.
I now have a problem with DU pages loading.
I live in a rural area.
My only other option is satellite.
I'm told there is too much congestion and they don't know when things will get better.
I'm using Windows Vista and Google Chrome.

(24,324 posts)The biggest determiner is the speed of your ISP.
You can check your server's speed here-
http://www.speedtest.net/
There are other speed test sites, but this is one.
I, unfortunately, have Frontier DSL (cable is faster- think TWC), the worst 'telephone' company in my entire life. I get a measly 1.4 Mb/sec. At work I get about 5 Mb/sec because I am closer to..whatever it is I am closer to..
Both of these suck, compared to other 'civilized' countries.
At 1.4 I gave up on Huff Po...It's the graphics that slow things down.
I also gave up because you have to use FB to comment.
There also are things you can do to speed up your computer. One is get rid of stuff.
I also use MS Security Essentials, Malware Bytes, CC Cleaner, Spyware blaster regularly, and AVG free for anti virus.
There is more, also.
WARNING: I don't know shit about computers. :> )

(67,112 posts)have been a lot of replies to a posting. That's not a fast connection you have, but I think there are other things slowing down DU too than just the connection.
I think often the DU servers are border overloaded, especially when there are a lot of hot topics being discussed. Sometimes it takes awhile for me to refresh 'Latest Threads,' sometimes I just give up and come back later. It's never been near an hour, wow, that is a long time, but it has been a couple of minutes for me once in awhile on a fast connection.
You might want to look at http://dslreports.com to see what others say in your area about ISP services.
