To use the pictures in my Op last night "Black Lives Matter" to everyone...finally. After reading them I felt the articles deserved an Op of there own.
Nadin said this to me.
We are covering the marches at Reporting San Diego
Suffice it to say, the scene has been changed in San Diego as well.
Who's feet, my feet, what feet, sore feet! One march was for about 10 miles, with a forty pound packs. We take way too much crap to the field, and these days includes tactical helmet, first aid kit and gas mask. Why? Well Ferguson of course.
Protesters Take to City Heights Streets Again
By nadinabbott on December 6, 2014

This is what people power can do, this is what protesting can do, said Mendonca.
The march had members from different strata of San Diego society. It brought together, white, black and brown. It also brought together working class, students and middle class people.
Before the march, the protesters held a die in that lasted 11 minutes. Each minute represented each time Eric Garner said he could not breath, before he died.
snip
What brought her to this protest, is that what has happened is wrong, and everybody should be out participating. It is wrong that people have been killed all over the country. Minorities who are unarmed, to sit at home and not do anything about it, and not participate, if you are not being part of the solution, you are being part of the problem.

Whos Campus, Our Campus Mike Brown and Eric Garner at USD
By nadinabbott on December 5, 2014
Dec. 5, 2014 (San Diego) Students, administrators, teachers and members of the community came to the University of San Diego (USD) for a march. This was a march in the same continuity of the national outrage over the grand jury decisions of both Missouri and New York. People are angry and tired of police impunity.
Tarez Lemmons was one of the student organizers and he saw a crowd of about 90 people. They came for one thing, to protest the deaths of two African-American men, at the hands of police, and the decisions of two mostly white grand juries.
Simmons told the crowd change is possible but it takes all our voices. He added that he started to feel the same kind of despondency that has reached many in communities of color. But he was cured of it once he saw people from widely different backgrounds coming out and showing the same anger.

Four and a Half Minutes for Mike Brown
By nadinabbott on November 29, 2014
Photos: Tom and Nadin Abbott
Nov. 29, 2014 (San Diego) Mark Jones led the march to Horton Plaza to protest the grand jury Decision from Ferguson, Missouri. He is an honorably discharged United States Marine and chose to lead the march in his Dress Blues. The march started at the convention Center, with about 50 participants, but grew over the course of the march to about a 100.
snip
In the speech he said, we are peaceful, to show you, to show everybody. Black, look at this crowd, brown, white, asian, standing together in solidarity. He added, I dont care what you think about that indictment, civil rights is civil rights, period.
snip
Jones also said that the people, who were marching, were not there because there is no problem. They were there because there is a problem. He also pointed out the mixed nature of the crowd, who were multi racial. My injustice today, is your injustice tomorrow!
Jones also was clear that people could go on with shopping like nothing happened. Then he, and the group, stood in silence for four and a half minutes, in memory of the four and a half hours that it took for the police to remove the body of Mike Brown from the streets in Ferguson.

Too damned many douche bags. Not nearly enough Nadines.
Tell her I said that.

(40,416 posts)Meanwhile the good ones are run off. That's a big problem of on-line forums.
Nadine has always been at the top of DU. But some asshole bullies ganged up on her and finally drove her away. There were many here who stood with her, but so many all out personal attacks took their toll.
Why contribute to a forum where you are bullied?
Of course, that invites the question Why does one go to an online forum to bully?
The answer is because some people are nothing more than utter douche bags. They are the ones who need to be driven off.
Certainly not an asset like Nadine.

FYI, this young man says it so well.

Good facebook link, Cha.
I forgot that SD was your old stomping ground. Good on San Diego. Brava and Bravo for all that are standing up and saying no more to the racist cops that seem to be murdering PoC at will.

WHEN CRABS ROAR
(3,813 posts)It's 1955 in San Diego, I'm 15 years old and the cop stops me walking down the street in Pacific Beach, he asks me my name, age, where I live, what I'm doing, where i'm going, and have I ever been arrested, he enters all this information on his field interrogation report form, all this takes about 15 minutes and I'm allowed to continue. This was standard operating procedure then. Everywhere we went we were stopped.
Flash forward to 1985 in San Diego, my 15 year old son is sitting on our front lawn in Pacific Beach and the cop pulls up and yells out his car window, "hey asshole get over here".
Sadly this is a true story.
And the police wonder why they aren't respected.

(40,416 posts)She was always one willing to post late night. And she is a real muckraker in SoCal politics, always a good asset.
I would like to say she has been a friend. At least I can say that when she was being harassed I told her that I had her back. Apparently I did not do enough in that department. We all fell down in defending her. Good intentions were not enough.
Let us all do better. And if Nadine returns, we will have her back.

(1,937 posts)Nadin, I do sincerely miss you and the information that you add to all of DU.
I have had my trolls, not many due to my limited postings, but then again, it might be a reason along with my disability for my limited posting.
I think that your skin may not be as tough as mine as scleroderma (translated as skin of stone) runs in my family and I already have two unique autoimmune diseases and don't need more.
Nadine I hope this reaches you and "You don't let the bastards let you down".
It may not be easy, but the ignore feature does work and I can only speak for myself, but I am sure that others who have posted here.
Back to the topic all of the protests are great as my generation participated in many. Yes, I was in Grant Park in 1968! I can no longer walk in a protest or anywhere more than 100 feet.
I am there in spirit and on the internet showing my support.
I wonder what summer will bring?
