Vanity Fair spoke with several people who waited outside in the cold for a glimpse of the royal couple, holding bouquets that they hoped to get to Kate. Carol Polock said she showed up at the Carlyle at 9:30 a.m., and would also try to see William and Kate at a Brooklyn Nets game Monday night and the Met on Tuesday. When asked why she braved the crowds and low temperatures, Polock responded: "I think it's just the whole fairy-tale thing. It's just exciting."
Before William and Kate return to Great Britain on Tuesday night, they will attend a party for the American Friends of the Royal Foundation. William will also meet President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden at the White House to discuss wildlife conservation and attend a meeting at the World Bank. Kate will visit a child-development center with the first lady of New York, Chirlane McCray, and attend a lunch for British achievers.

(30,151 posts)You can do that with goats too
This is a white goat, which gets its name from the Saanen valley in Switzerland, where selective breeding of dairy goats has taken place for several hundred years.
The Saanens in the UK started with an importation of goats from Holland in 1922, and these had an enormous influence on the development of British goats.
Since 1922, there have been importation of goats from Switzerland in 1965, semen from Switzerland in 1993 and goats from Holland in 1997/98.

(15,042 posts)I'm older now and recognize them as the anachronism all such piffle represent.
There are some who criticize welfare mothers, and others who cluster before the Carlyle to welcome one to town.

(13,110 posts)I do not love 'royalty'.
I don't think 'royalty' should exist in the year 2014.
We have presidents in the U.S. and they are treated like 'royalty'.
People being placed on undeserved pedestals benefit no one.
I would not open the front door to meet a king, queen, prince, or princess.
Fairy tales are for children.
P.S. I wouldn't open the front door to meet the majority of people who have been president in the U.S. either.
Respect and admiration should be earned.
It should never be given because of a title.

(10,362 posts)Lordships, knighthoods, etc. All disgusting. How can those people call each other lord and lady with a straight face?
I'd be polite to Kate and William out of respect to the British people, but not standing around fawning over them.

Just because a person has a title DOES not improve their human standing. What if we titled them LUCKY SPERM instead of LORDS?

(149,737 posts)She worked hard to give her sons an idea of what ordinary people have to deal with routinely. Their upbringing wasn't all bowing and diamond crowns and ermine robes. She wanted them to be as "normal" as they could be, given their status at birth.

(17,111 posts)certainly scrambled the entire ancestral royal tree across continents. Trying to figure out relationships can give one a huge headache. Those who are charged with keeping up with such connections have to be taxed to the maximum.

(17,111 posts)It is an anachronism. However, the British people must deal with this as they see fit. I doubt they are enamored with our Congress as it is set up. Gerrymandering and such have created an anachronism of racist white men holding an oversized grip on our government.
That said about Royalty, I will not hold William and Kate personally responsible. They are the best of a questionable lot. Princess Diana certainly did her part to raise awareness by reaching out, literally, to AIDS victims and bringing the problem of land mines to the fore. William and Harry seem to be trying too.
I give William and Kate props for trying to create a better world. Their titles hold no draw for me. They were born into their situations which are privileged. How they use their status is important.

(2,016 posts)If you're cold headed about it, Brit royalty pays for itself. They scrapped the luxurious Queen's yacht, pared down her allowance. Millions travel and spend their cash in London because it has that 'royal cachet'. Why not? People are entitled self-paying fairy tales.
But one of the richest men in Britain is Lord Grosvenor, 6th Duke of Westminster. Guy owns a sizable chunk of London real estate. Did he do anything, invent anything? No. Did any of the past two, 3, 4 generations above him invent, earn that? No.
It's all good to feel a fuzzy feeling about queens and baby princes. Just trim the surrounding leeches.

They sit on thrones because we permit it. We could have withdrawn and let the Soviets deal with them the way they dealt with the queen's relatives, the Romanovs.
