Every time someone criticizes POTUS around here (and, admittedly, that happens a lot), there's a contingent that pushes back saying we have to support the president because he's a Democrat, period. And at DU, we support Democrats.
But now he's not just abandoning Democratic principles, nor is he just pissing off (pissing on?) the base. Now his own party is up in arms...
House Democrats vow to block Obama on Asia trade pact
and like some FDR-in-reverse, he seems to welcome their hatred...
Obama says he willing to defy Democrats on his support of Trans-Pacific Partnership; President Obama said he'll side with Republicans against his traditional allies on trade pacts.
So, Pete Seeger and I are wondering: which side are you on?

(65,616 posts)if they completely avoid your thread. The TPP is a horrible idea and I can't believe he is going to side with the GOP. As a matter of fact, I'll believe it if he actually does it. If he does not, then it was all posturing for something else. IT seems like everything done in D.C. now a days is done through political posturing...compromise died long ago with bipartisanship RIP.
As far as Congress goes, after watching what they did to Bill Clinton and after watching the free pass they gave obvious warmongering - I am a little skeptical about anything Congress does or does not do. They let the CIA slide on torture, gave a lying general a free pass, felt the need to vacation most of last year despite shutting down the country at a cost of $26 billion dollars. Showed up to get re-elected again.
Until I see that much rank incompetence from Obama, I will reserve my judgment on if he is or is not going to sign anything with the GOP. He is just as likely to say, "haha fooled ya, how does it feel?"
That wouldn't surprise me either.

(65,616 posts)Yet according to current actions by the POTUS, he has openly defied the GOP and pissed them off. He keeps thumbing his nose at them (since the midterms) knowing they won't do shit these last 2 years but try and screw him over. Just would be funny if he pulled the rug out from under them at the last minute.
I have to admit I have been enjoying watching him fuck with GOP Congress since the midterms, it will be a shame if he give this to them on a silver platter.
He and the entire world knows the TPP is a bullshit sandwich. It would also fuck over HRC (have no idea why she is pushing for this piece of trash policy) chances to get elected imo by moderates.
Dunno, just seems like a strange or stupid move. Take your pick.
