Police Officer Sees Graffiti Artist “Tag” a Building, So He Runs Him Over With His Car

http://thefreethoughtproject.com/street-artist-critical-condition-facing-death-police-car-ran/

21-year-old street artist Delbert Rodriguez Gutierrez is now in critical condition and facing death after a police officer in a patrol car ran him over during a chase. Delbert’s artist name is “Demz,” and police claim that they caught him tagging a building around 2am on Friday morning, near the intersection of NW 5th Avenue and 24th Street, in Wynwood.

Wynwood is an art district in Miami where graffiti is extremely common, and sometimes artists have agreements set up where they are allowed to tag on buildings. However, it is not clear whether or not Gutierrez had permission to be where he was, and police claim that he fled as soon as he saw the flashing red and blue lights of the police car.

Detective Michael Cadavid chased after the young artist in his unmarked patrol car, eventually running him over. After the incident, Cadavid claimed that Demz jumped out in front of the car and could not be avoided.

He was quickly rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where shortly after he was listed under critical condition with a severe brain injury.

That is, during an art festival in an area where much of the graffiti being written is legal.

DEMZ's graffiti wasn't legal. That said, the Wynwood district is the street art and graffiti center of the world during Art Basel.

That's just a little bit of context here.

Reminds me of the coroner's report from the early '60s. Black civil rights worker was found hanged after being shot and stabbed. Coroner ruled the death as "natural" because it's only natural that a n*****r that was shot, stabbed and hung would die.

We haven't come very far, have we?

and jumping in front of the car. I don't believe that cops are above lying to save their asses. I don't have much faith in LEO. Actually, I think there are probably plenty of people that would try to get away with killing somebody with their car with this lie.

Dec 2014

I lived in Miami when this happened. I'm white, and I had a bad personal experience with some dirty City of Miami cops. I don't know how bad it is now, as I moved away 20 years ago, but back in the 80's and early 90's there were parts of Overtown and Liberty City that the cops wouldn't even go in at night. *IF* they did go in, they had most of the force with them... along with a couple of SWAT teams.

The Metro-Dade cops were a different story, most of them were pretty cool. My best friend's father was Metro-Dade. When he pulled over a drunk driver he'd tell them "you have two choices... you can get in the car with my partner and I'll drive your car home, or you can get in the car with both of us and go to jail". I also got stopped on 2 occasions and had a bag of weed on me... the Metros just took my weed, dumped it out on the ground, spit on it and ground it into the street with their shoes then looked at me and asked "do you still want to smoke that?" I said " no sir, I think I'll leave right there with you." They said "good answer, now get in your car and get the fuck out of here".

Peace,

Ghost

having a great deal of difficulty seeing how this could be anything other than a blame-worthy homicide by the driver. Unless you're trying to pin the victim against something (hopefully not a police 'tactic'), why would you be so close and so fast as to cause fatal injury, no matter how the victim moves or changes direction?

Although this is a complete WAG, I would not be at all surprised to hear that the officer was trying to 'trip' the victim with the car, or to pin/block him in such a way that he couldn't escape...
