How frequently do you read or post on Discussionist, if at all?
Use the last 30 days as a guide to your answer. So if you haven't accessed Discussionist in the last 30 days, the answer is "Never".
For the purpose of the poll accessed means read or responded to or created a message. So 2-5 times a day means you read or responded to or created 2-5 posts a day.

I have no interest in reading posts from people who despise blacks, muslims, hispanics, and gays.

And yes, calling somebody who carries their guns into restaurants and stores an "ammosexual" is a bannable offense here at DU, as well as over at Discussionist.

(45,851 posts)I get disgusted/burned out/annoyed with the whole online argumentation thing on a fairly regular basis and abstain for a while, I've posted quite a bit there but not in the last few weeks.
It's ultimately futile except in a "posting for the lurkers" sort of sense, none of the hard core posters on any side is suddenly going to flip their thinking 180 degrees.
Reminds me a lot of DU in more than a few ways but there aren't as many really funny posters, except maybe unintendedly. On the other hand possibly the single funniest example of troll fail I've ever seen online was on Discussionist.

(7,288 posts)over there by the righties. When projection and deflection aren't enough the devolve into personal attacks and insults.
Facts mean nothing to them, they simply ignore them. Reason is a foreign concept to them. Most of them are petty and small and more often than not discussion with them is akin to trying to reason with a child in the throes of a tantrum. I now keep my interactions with them to a minimum, when my disgust is at a minimum.

(10,745 posts)Not sure I want to, either. You know why? I've had to put up with some pretty stupid bullshit here on DU, with me being attacked by a certain few people, every so often, over disagreements on privilege theory, or trying to debunk climate doomer nutjobbery, etc.(as well as one asshat who stalked me every so often for over a year and a half, before I finally permanently put his dumb ass on ignore), but at least I can handle a few *individual* trolls, malcontents, etc. once in a while.
But from what little I've been able to see at Discussionist, the RW trolls often seem to come in groups, and sometimes all at once. And I suspect that whatever enjoyment I *might* get over being able to debunk their whackery would probably be rather quickly overwhelmed by the frustration of just trying to fend them all off. And then there's the racism, misogyny, etc., that I've also spotted on occasion that'd make your average MRA blush in embarrassment.
So, yeah. DU has it's problems, but we're a lot better than Discussionist; that place turned into a shithole pretty quick, and has stayed like that.

(15,512 posts)Doesn't seem much changed from early last summer and it didn't seem so bad then. Yeah there was that embarrassing thread that didn't get hidden, but the DI members seemed to be denouncing it. Basically it seems to function as a second chance for banned DU members and since but for the grace of dog etc I'm chary of knocking it, if you get my drift. But seriously, it's not that dissimilar from DU as far as I could tell, less fun though because there's no groups or forums. Or front page. It's sort of a Metro screen version of DU which I'm pretty sure was the original motivation -- DU for smartphones. Lacking a smartphone I can't confirm that tho.

(80,708 posts)And anyone who is paying attention, knows who I am over there.
It's a different deal than DU, serves a different purpose. Obviously there are some disagreeable folks over there, including some illustrious or infamous names repeatedly banned from DU. But contrary to assertions that it is this, that, or the other, the posters seem to sit across various spectrums, ideologically.
One main and long-served purpose of DU is for us like-minded folk (mostly) to not have to argue with Right Wingers, and DU is good for that. However, that does not mean that all websites need to be like DU.
What I find particularly lame are the oft-repeated demands that it be shut down, or the not-so-subtle intimations that "good" DU members shouldn't ever post over there. Screw that. Every time I see that crap here, it makes me want to post over there more. I'll do what I want, thanks.

(8,171 posts)I couldn't care less if Discussionist exists forever but I do not agree with allowing the attacks. Skinner obviously tried to redirect those "discussions" in the beginning but was unsuccessful. I'm sure he assumed that eventually people would tire of it, lol. At least Discussionist is no longer advertised over here.
I don't know why anyone would object to how much you post over there.

(80,708 posts)Discussionist certainly has an element of what used to be meta, over here on DU.
It is funny, of course, that some of the people who enjoyed meta the most, then turned around and celebrated its demise, have been the most enthusastic promoters of continued meta-style shennanigans here on DU in the days hence.

(8,171 posts)Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)i think DI is serving an important function, but part of it initially I suspect was just that elad had some neat ideas for tag-based discussions, that would have amounted to a far too massive overhaul if they had tried to impliment them as DU 4.
This is just speculation, of course. But because DI is structred that way, even though there are some objectionable- to say the least- folks over there, the more open system makes it VERY easy to personalize the experience and only see the shit one wants to.
seaglass
(8,171 posts)look of DI and the tags, just not most of the people. . Other than testing out new discussion board design I don't believe DI has any important function.
pipi_k
(21,020 posts)stated it better.
Also, in reference to your last paragraph, I just wanted to add that not only do I find it lame that so many here demand that it be shut down, I find it pathetic and obnoxious.
I'm sure that any random person coming across the site isn't going to connect it in any way to DU, so people who are worried about the place somehow reflecting negatively on DU can probably relax. Actually, there is much more that goes on here during the course of a normal day that would reflect badly on DU, and I'm not talking about ideology...rather, how a lot of DUers treat other people.
I guess my question for those who want to see DI shut down would be, "Why??"
Under what premise to people think they have...or should have...the right to silence other people, even if the opinions being expressed are objectionable...

http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Hitler_and_socialism
The fact that we even need to write this should tell you something about these people, but why not take a hack at it? While the Nazis did oppose capitalism as an "international" ideology out to destroy the German nation, he was not opposed to private enterprise within a national "sandbox." Furthermore, in order to get to power, he allied with people whose economic views were much more pro-business, distancing himself from alte kaempfer like Gottfried Feder and bringing people such as Hjalmar Schacht into his circle.
snip
For this argument to be even close to being solvent (fans of Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn, we're looking at you), good chunks of history need to be thrown out the window:
1.That the 96-member Social Democratic Party of Germany was Hitler's main opposition in the Reichstag, and the only political party that attempted to halt the laws that established him as dictator and brought down the Weimar Republic. In fact, all of the ideological predecessors of today's conservative and classically liberal parties voted unanimously for the law, while the SPD voted unanimously against despite the presence of SA 'guards' in the building.[2][3]
2.That the first political groups targeted during the Nazi ascendancy were pacifists, trade unions and communists;[4][5] and
3.That the Strasserites, the only strand of Nazism that could be referred to as left-wing (ie. pro-working class in nature), were all killed off (with a handful of conservative dissidents) in what we all know as the Night of the Long Knives.[6]
We're waiting.
