Bush White House Was Worried Colin Powell Would ‘Blow His Stack’ If Briefed on Torture

Why??
=====

<snip>
The Bush White House didn’t brief then-Secretary of State Colin Powell about the specifics of the CIA's interrogation program until September 2003 because it was worried Powell would “blow his stack” if he found out what was going on, according to the report released Tuesday by the Senate Intelligence Committee.

According to a July 2003 email, the official reason the National Security Council didn’t have a full briefing on the program at that time was to “avoid press disclosures.” But unofficially, the email said, "it is clear to us from some of the runup meetings we had with [White House] counsel that the [White House] is extremely concerned [Secretary of State] Powell would blow his stack if he were to be briefed on what’s been going on."

National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice decided later that Powell, along with Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, should in fact be briefed on the program. Both were briefed for 25 minutes on Sept. 16, 2003. The CIA started using what it called “enhanced interrogation” tactics in 2002.

How is a federal government agency that is apparently exempt from oversight by any of the three branches of government -- even the executive -- consistent with our constitutional structure?

They ad the foresight to give him some briefings in illustrations and hand him a 64 pack of Crayolas. That was the only way they could get him to understand a message.

Unfortunately it took 9-11 to realize this.

and saw up-close how Nixon hanged himself by being intimately involved with the details whereas Raygun kept his distance from Iran-Contra and survived. Though it's open to question how much King Ronnie was even capable of knowing by that time.

It's a method taken from the Mob - always have distance between yourself and the actions taken with no way to trace it back.

mess during the Bush administration, except to say well, we won't let it happen again. Again, there is really no accountability IMO. They made a travesty of the integrity of the US. They have blemished this country forever by doing all of the despicable things this country was NOT supposed to be. And then plead ignorance of what was going on. Just how much BS is acceptable. I am so disgusted with what this country has become and even more disgusted that all is to be just forgotten.

now on Chris Hayes as the one person who knew everything that was going on. That means that even GWB wasn't in the loop. What kind of circus were we being subjected to back then? He also testified that Powell had asked him to take out any connections to Saddam for WMD's and then had to put it back in when they lied that one of the tortured detainees had said there were.

Honestly, we really need a war crimes tribunal ASAP.

colon (sic), ass for brains, powell was a willing water carrier who presented the world with cartoons of "mobile labs" to gin up support for a completely bullshit reason for war.

so if they mean "he would have blown his top" that can be translated to meaning, he would have rolled over and said, "rub my belly".

if he had any guts, he would have resigned.

he's as guilty as the rest.

so in summation, powell can go fuck himself.
