Sen. Elizabeth Warren Tells House Dems Not To Support Omnibus

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) told House Democrats to block a government spending bill until an add-on that weakens financial reforms is removed.

“I urge my Democratic colleagues in the House to withhold support for it until this risky give away is removed,” Warren said on the Senate floor Wednesday.

The House is voting this week on a $1.1 trillion “cromnibus” that aims to keep most of the government funded through September 2015. If Congress doesn't act by Dec. 11, the government will shutdown.

Warren said Republicans are threatening a government shutdown unless the bill includes repeals to the Dodd-Frank financial reform law. She said the provision “goes too far” and would allow big banks to be bailed out by the government after making risky trades.

“Republicans are threatening to shutdown the government if they don’t get a chance to repeal it,” Warren said. “Why? It’s about money and it’s about power.”

get the bad press they got last time. I know if the Republicans had shut down the gov't closer to election time it would have affected the outcome. This is a no-win for Dems. They either fight the Repubs and allow the gov't to shut down hurting us in 2016 or they go along with it and the banks win. At least some Dems got the language changed to where it only includes SOME derivatives and not ALL like the Repubs original amendment.

You know, if we had a free and fair press this wouldn't be an issue. They would let the American people know what was going on and the American people would never approve of being on the hooks for more banks.

budget show down. I don't think either party wants a repeat of what happened. That's why it is going so smoothly this time. I would still rather the Democrats fight though. A showdown might hurt the Democrats temporarily but if they were to show that they really cared about the American people eventually the people would start coming around. But it will take more than not letting banks write legislation to get the American people to support the Democratic Party again. The Democratic Party has to start fighting for unions, pensions, a real living wage, making a real increase to the cost of living increases to SS checks(how long has it been stuck at 1.7% now? As if the cost of living only increased by 1.7%), increase to K-12 and university education spending at the federal and state level. The American people will not trust either party again until we start seeing legislation that truly represents the people, not the richest of the rich. That starts with standing up to the banks and I would also add that they must fight for peoples' pensions in this budget. If they don't the trust between the government and the American people will continue to erode.

It's always about money and power and these dumbfucks would rather get us all killed off, than spend a single day on the job doing their job!

We so few reps that actually give a shit about us. It's depressing.
