Its bad enough to not prosecute these officials but to reward and promote them is incomprehensible, Udall said on the Senate floor Wednesday. The president needs to purge his administration.
Udall reiterated his call for the resignation of CIA Director John Brennan, saying he should no longer lead the agency because officials hacked into the Intelligence Committees computers during their investigation and deleted a file.
He also spilled some findings from the so-called Panetta review, which was not included in the Senate panels report but is expected to paint a damning picture of the CIAs public statements about the interrogation program.
Director Brennan and the CIA today are continuing to willfully provide inaccurate information and misrepresent the efficacy of torture, Udall said.
The CIA is lying. This is not an issue of the past, this is going on today.

Nonsense. Look how many people have to have known just how depraved the torture was and just how much the torture corrupted the 9/11 Commission Report, the legislation and policy that moved us into Iraq and a number of other events including even the Valerie Plame scandal.
All it takes is a very small number of people perpetrating a great crime -- AND THE MECHANISMS THAT PROTECT SECRETS -- in high places, and you can have a conspiracy of enormous proportions.
That's what makes conspiracies. That's how they work. Throughout history.
Don't be too quick to pooh-pooh conspiracy theories. You don't have to believe everything.
But think about Bin Laden. He was being protected by high-ups in Pakistan. Who would'a thought they could do that without our knowing a lot sooner precisely where he was and what he was doing. Or did we know? Did Bush know all along and cover it up in order to have yet another reason to excite Americans into fearing and fighting?

(55,981 posts)learn. Honest debate. But those that are obsessed with shutting down all discussion of CT do so, IMO, because they can't handle reality. They hate whistle-blowers for the same reason. For some reason they believe ignorance of a problem is bliss. And they try to control others from such debates using lock and hide alerts.
Conspiracies abound in politics. Hiding from them doesn't help.

(60,010 posts)Also makes it understandable why the Gov't comes down so very hard on whistleblowers...because there are apparently a LOT of secrets to be covered up.

(5,624 posts)a shit? Remember, the CIA gave us Bin Laden. They armed and trained BL and Al Qaeda, brought Saddam Hussein to power and supported him with chemical weapons, etc etc etc. So its kind of a moot point if they assisted in taking those guys out out.

(3,919 posts)he needs to hire his own vetted private security of loyal supporters because he certainly is in danger. now more than ever. now, am questioning how intentional the white house breeches in security a few weeks ago were allowed to occur?
seriously, the pattern of hiring of individuals with so little sense of duty that it is more important to them to leave their posts to be on their cell phones in their vehicles or have drunken orgies in foreign countries when they are supposed to be securing the safety of the president? who is responsible for this? they are lying to the president.

(10,718 posts)I'm more understanding of the difficulties of prosecution, but the bar should be high for anyone remaining in public service who was even remotely involved in torture. Obama has had a very public position against torture which is a good safeguard against its continuation, but I'd like to see the removal of all those involved, permanently, as a second measure to change the agencies involved.
