Should Obama prosecute and jail Bush/Cheney over torture?

The evidence is clear. War crimes were committed and orders came straight from the top. Any prosecution would most certainly result in conviction IMO.

So...should Obama prosecute and jail Bush and Cheney?

Does the President advise the Justice Department to do this? Doesn't this undermine that 'separateness' thing between the 3 branches?
If anyone has a Charge Torturers with War Crimes for Dummies, plse advise. There tends to be a lot of misinformation on how this could be done.

I don't think it will be, or should be. It is a wonderful dream to have those fucking ghouls in jail.

anyone with any crime or put anyone in jail. That's not the President's job. Such charges would come from the Attorney General's office, and that would appear to be very unlikely.

It's a shame nobody seems to understand how our government works.

I'd be fine with extraditing them for prosecution by the Iraqis. If they get convicted over there, they can't be pardoned here and simply walk free.

Such a thing is unheard of in the US. I sincerely doubt that any former President will ever be charged for such a thing.

Finally, President Obama has no power to either jail or prosecute anyone. That's not in his job description.

The OP did not mention the document's release.

The report was released because it was finished. Why would it not be released, once it was completed?

correct, .....the OP did not mention the document release, my assumption, ....my bad. Nothing to do with the document release.

Question, unrelated to this poll that in no way relates to the current document release.
Why wasn't a prosecution begun the last time torture document release ? were they waiting, ...... for this document to be released ?
I understand you don't know any more than I, but I'm curious what your opinion might be ?

even better question,

And the grand daddy question,

Why wait to release until 3 weeks before facing an adversarial Senate and House ?

You would have to indict half if not more of the American populace if you indict Bush and Cheney. I think most Americans either agree with Bush and Cheney or don't care. Remember our nation was conceived by slavers, and genocidal thieves. Exploitation and abuse of the others is the national occupation and we have long reveled in the massacre of innocents.

They are a guilty as hell for sure but they are just scapegoats for our national shame.
