John McCain is to the Republican Party what Oskar Schindler was to the Nazi Party.

McCain added (emphatically) that "the use of torture compromises that which most distinguishes us from our enemies, our belief that all people, even captured enemies, possess basic human rights."

Edit: I'm not suggesting that McCain is a generally good guy; this was meant as more of a statement about the Republican Party than about him. He allowed a hint of humanity to slip out and they don't like it.

If you watched Schindler's List and trust its historical accuracy, you'll recall that Schindler was no good guy either. He was a greedy war profiteer who eagerly took advantage of enslaved Jews. It wasn't until he saw way more evidence of Nazi atrocities than should have been necessary that he finally came around and did something about it. All I'm saying is that I see some similarity here.

Apache Leap an area that would be included in the Copper mining land grab that Sen McCain snuck into the recent defense bill.

Hidden in the defense bill was a package granting an illegal land swap near Superior, AZ, for the benefit of a foreign company Rio Tinto PLC who seek to mine copper. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) as part of the Senate Armed Services Committee was instrumental in pushing to get the provision language included.
