Associated Press= WASHINGTON (AP) A special House committee investigating the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans will seek to avoid fights over issues that have already been decided as it reconvenes in the new year, lawmakers said Wednesday.
Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, the senior Democrat on the panel, said committee Chairman Trey Gowdy has agreed to narrow the scope of the panel's investigation and set up rules governing its operation.
The 12-member committee expires with the end of this congressional term and must be reauthorized in the new Congress that begins next month. House Speaker John Boehner and other GOP leaders have said they intend to keep the committee intact.
Gowdy, R-S.C., said he and Cummings have not decided how to narrow the Benghazi inquiry which follows at least a half-dozen congressional and internal reviews but said there was no reason to investigate facts that are not in dispute.

(46,416 posts)to damage the people they want to hurt: Obama, Susan Rice, and Hillary Clinton. They DO NOT want it to damage anyone at the CIA or DoD (Panetta, Petraeus, Joint Chiefs, and so on)--this would entail disclosing classified operations that probably wouldn't sound so good right now. But it's impossible to separate it all out, which explains why they've spent two years dancing around the issue, but never quite seizing it.

(113,069 posts)in Benghazi where he had a covert CIA operation going and where a few dozen of his CIA operatives were on the ground there before, during, and after the attack.
Because, you see, every Republican who spent 2 years lying about Benghazi wants to pin Petraeus' CIA operation failures on the State Dept, whose biggest screwup was letting CIA run covert ops out of their consulate annexes.
