Krugman: American Evil - The Bush Administration

As the Bush administration fades away in the rearview mirror, my sense is that many people — even liberals — are forgetting what it was really like. It becomes, in memory, just another administration whose policies you disapprove of, like the reign of Bush the elder.

But it wasn’t. It was an administration that deliberately misled us into war, exploiting an atrocity to pursue an agenda that had nothing to do with that atrocity — and causing vast amounts of death and destruction in the process, not to mention undermining American strength.

And it was an administration under which America became a torturer, with the enthusiastic approval of top officials.

This wasn’t normal. And if it’s going be normal from now on, all the more reason to remember the Bush years with horror.

http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/12/10/american-evil-2/

Right on target, as usual.

Yes, evil. And the evil continues by the refusal of the same criminals and conspirators to even say the T word.

My income was considered middle of the middle class. It was good paid. Until that infamous year 2004 budget "showdown" that Bush demanded tax cut for rich while increase taxes on middle class. My income went down, I couldn't afford my car rent (it was nice car), I barely kept up with apartment rent (again it was nice place), and my single life entertainment quickly became much more different. When bank repo my car, I ended up lost good paying job, had to start my life all over. Thanks to W. and his asshole buddies.

That impact isn't felt to this day for me but of course I have not forgotten it. Now W. want to push politically-plebeian brother of his to be our next president? Fuck off.

I don't think he's ever been wrong on the Bush administration. I will always appreciate the role he played as, seemingly, a lone sane voice in the midst of some strange days indeed.

No one else is close. He had no redemming qualities and who he chose to let lead while he was permanently on vacation has shaped this country in terrible ways and has basically gutted our constitutional rights.

pretty much believes . and criticism of Obama and other dems are usually focused on issues, what they should have done etc.

it's only on DU (andsome other internet sites) where you you certain types and there is a good reason for that.

In fact, we have been lied into war on numerous occasions in which
atrocities were exploited (Spanish American War, Mexican War);
and torture is not new either - the US supported it with training
and big money in Iran under the Shah, Latin America (1950's
through 1980's at least), and elsewhere.
These are uncomfortable facts, but they are facts nonetheless.
The real question is WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

BushCheneyRove just about destroyed my country.

I feel like Cassandra here, because I said over and over (during the BushCheney years) that we were not going to be able to undo the damage in one presidency no matter who we elected. Saying "I told you so" gives me no satisfaction, but every so often I just want to scream it here.

Obama is human and makes mistakes. But he is not the evil monsters that got us here. He's trying to undo it. And it CAN'T be done in one presidency. It might not be undone in what's left of my lifetime either.

Just never, ever forget who actually brought us here, and don't waste time tearing down anyone who is actually trying to get us out. Like, for instance, Dianne Feinstein. The shit I have read about her since the day before she published the report is a classic case of Kill the Messenger.

That George W. Bush was the worst President in American history. And this doesn't touch the fact that Bush revived Hoovernomics with similar results before they were cut short with some painful bail outs.

May each and every one of the horrific lying warmongering scum receive what they so richly deserve - everlasting shame and LONG prison sentences, preferably at Gitmo! (Being imprisoned at Gitmo will never happen for many reasons, but I can dream.)
