We were driving to the bus station in Grand Rapids, MI to pick up our 17-year old son, who had been stranded downstate at a friend's house. A brutal winter storm had messed up his connections. GR was the end of the line, and if we hadn't driven the two hours to pick him up he would have been spending the night in a bus station.
We had the radio on, and there was a news bulletin. I was shocked and devastated. I knew that things had changed forever.
