(6,960 posts)I am kicking this because we should never forget what happened 14 years ago today. That was the real date that should live in infamy.
I remember feeling sick then; and driving home from work today, it hit me all over again. Coupled with the ghastly budget and the cowardly Dems, I am losing all hope.

(36,747 posts)If we had a real "democratic" election in 2000, the election would have been by popular vote and it would have gone to a run off vote between just Bu$h and Gore. However we stumbled yet again on one of the flaws in our republic, the Electoral College. Even more damage was done when the SCOTUS stuck their nose into the issue, contrary to the US Constitution. It was a State of FL matter and if they couldn't resolve it, it was up to the House of Representatives to solve. The election of 1876 is a prime example of how it should have been handled. The "selection of 2000" cost this country very dearly, IHMO.
