The original James Caan one from 1976 (not the bad remake). It uses the premise of Corporations taking over as a result of Corporate wars, bringing stability in exchange for freedom. Shock Doctrine anyone? A world were the Corporations rule for the benefit of the corporate elite, where decisions are made without recourse and the people are interchangeable parts has amazing resonance.

(53,475 posts)... I moved from far-right to far-left while serving in SEA early 1970's. Rollerball opened my eyes to the fact the giant corporations were the bad guys.
Maybe I'll watch again. Thanks for posting.

Now he's too busy preparing my grandchildren for an everlasting life when the end times come to worry about politics or corporate interest. Fortunately, he named my oldest grandson after himself, and he's got that rebel spirit, so I still have that for as long as I'm allowed to see him.
Obviously, the movie had an impact on me at the time. I too believe it was quite prophetic.

The most chilling part in that movie to me was when Jonathan's trainer asked "where does the music come from, who makes the music". The insinuation that you are force fed everything including entertainment is creepy as hell.
