Those that don't remember a time when Republicans and Democrats could actually have a conversation. Might not have gotten anywhere but it still would be based in reality.

(45,319 posts)There they are chatting about how the Secular State has no authority to make social change using law. The racism is so think you could slice it up and serve it on toast, but a cracker would be more fitting.
What was the Republican Party actually doing at that time, and what did they do later with the ideas and organizations of men such as those in the tape? That's the question. Bill Buckley was a brilliant man, but what has that got to do with the nature of the Republicans and conservatism then or now? That he was clever does not mean his ideas were good or that the Party he promoted was good. It means he made them sound good. Who did they elect, what objectives did they pursue, what policies were they driving?
These men in the interview brought you Ronald Reagan, the religious right and Supply Side Economics. They were able to do so in part by making it sound good. They fooled many people including some very smart people. That's how good they made it sound.....

(17,997 posts)Going to argue with me on two posts about the same thing?
No, I didn't reply to the other post because there's no point.
Two things
1. Nothing you said changes the truth or spirit of the post we're talking about.
2. As my grandmother said, convince a man against his will, he'll have the same opinion still.
Have a great Sunday.
