Do you send

gift cards in envelopes? Safe or not? Seems like they'd be easy to steal, and they're activated.

Pretty much every one I've seen lately has fine print saying things along the lines of 'Treat this like cash. If it is stolen and used, there is no recourse.' I like the LL Bean e-certificates. You print them out for yourself, then you can email the certificate ID and 'pin' separately to the recipient, or email them one and phone them with the other for added security.
