Pretty much every one I've seen lately has fine print saying things along the lines of 'Treat this like cash. If it is stolen and used, there is no recourse.' I like the LL Bean e-certificates. You print them out for yourself, then you can email the certificate ID and 'pin' separately to the recipient, or email them one and phone them with the other for added security.

Or you can send it in one of those bubble envelopes to be safer
