Taliban gunmen stormed a school in Pakistan on Tuesday, killing at least 126 people, mostly children, that country's government said.
Hours after the attack, it was still not clear if hostages were being held or whether the militants were killed by Pakistan's military.
The attack began in the early morning, with the gunmen entering the school a military-run facility in the northwestern city of Peshawar with students in grades 1-10 and shooting at random, said police officer Javed Khan. Army commandos quickly arrived at the scene and exchanged fire with the gunmen, he said.
Mushtaq Ghani, the province's information minister, said most of the dead were students, children and teenagers.

(6,399 posts)But for the life of me, I can't really grasp why they go after a target like this instead of a target with real meaning towards their goals.
It just further shows the idiocy of terrorists.

(17,195 posts)Since the purpose of terror is terror, you concentrate on the weakest civilians you can and kill them as nastily as possible. You don't fight people who can actually fire back. That's what booby traps are for.

Ahmed Rashid, an expert on the Islamic militants, told the BBC the insurgents had various reasons to attack the school, one of which was to send a message to the supporters of Malala, who advocates education for women and children.
In response to the events at the school in Pakistan, education campaigner Malala has condemned the "atrocious and cowardly" attack.
Fucking religion of peace *spit*

(43,049 posts)they made some sort of statement that they wanted Pakistan to "feel the pain" that they did over something else.
This appears to be some insane form of vengeance. Truly insane.

(18,868 posts)because it causes too much of a negative backlash . Wasn't that just last week? It's better to just shoot them?
But it's OK to kill a lot of innocent school children?
