Pennsylvania restaurant calls man N-word on bar receipt, insists it’s a “joke”

http://thegrio.com/2014/12/15/receipt-nword-joke/

A Pennsylvania man says he was taken aback over the weekend when a bartender used the N-word instead of his name on the receipt for his food.

Marquis Moore told The Patriot News that he was just about to enjoy his food from Zembie’s Sports Tavern in Harrisburg when he noticed the word “n***a” was written where his name was supposed to be.

According to Zembie’s owner Angelo Karagiannis, this is all just a misunderstanding and the word was meant as a light-hearted joke. He claims bartender Megan Bonsall says Moore was busy talking to people at the bar, and so she asked a friend for his name. That friend then allegedly showed Moore’s Facebook page to Bosnall, where he described himself as a “sexy n***a.”

She said that she wrote down “n***a” on the ticket as a way to be playful. But Moore isn’t buying that explanation. He suspects the bartender had searched the comments on his Facebook page looking for an excuse after she was caught. “Even if that is the case, why didn’t she put ‘sexy n***a’ on the check?” Moore pointed out.

Playful?!

Over the past few days, I'm simply going to have to accept that human beings excel at rationalizing the use of language that intentionally offends other people for its own sake.

Doesn't the owner know their online ratings are going to be destroyed now? Anyone who googles their establishment will find comments like "racist" under their Yelp listing.

Not funny, and not harmless.

use some form of that word. How about we just never use any form of that word? Then we can be sure we are not using it "inappropriately"--since there really is no appropriate way for a white person to sling around that word or any of its permutations.

because she saw it on his Facebook page (probably after the fact) and to all others who are convinced that if black people use a version of the word in friendly conversation, then everyone, of any race, has a right to use it in friendly conversation. I think no one who is not black should use any version of that word.

for them to say the N word-

Because that is what people are doing. Say on tv some old white lady literally says "The N Word" and all that is doing is making ME think, oh she means "n****r" so now I am the one saying the damn word in MY head!

People need to take responsibility for what they say and just say it instead of putting it on others!

I was a regular at a bar and started a tab with a new bartender. He hadn't been there long. Other bartender, who knew me well, saw the ticket and thought it was funny and told me about it. I asked the 'offending' bartender let me see the tab. I guess, to his credit, he did try to obscure the word "FAG" with his finger. He never forgot my name again.
