"Should any American soldier be so base and infamous as to injure any (prisoner). . . I do most earnestly enjoin you to bring him to such severe and exemplary punishment as the enormity of the crime may require. Should it extend to death itself, it will not be disproportional to its guilt at such a time and in such a cause... for by such conduct they bring shame, disgrace and ruin to themselves and their country."
-- George Washington, charge to the Northern Expeditionary Force, Sept. 14, 1775

(51,076 posts)3. Kinda hard to imagine
all men are created equal with the fact that many of the founding fathers were slave owners. I guess they thought that slaves weren't people or something. Its just hard for this old man to wrap my pea brain around this hypocrisy.
Between you, me and anyone willing to listen I'm here to say I'm ashamed of the treatment that off white folks get here in the good O USA. It sucks and needs to be brought to a halt
I served in war with all nationalities of people and we all were one and the same or we treated each other that way, sometimes the military didn't though but thats another story for another day
