Obama: As a Black Man He's Been Mistaken for Valet

WASHINGTON — Dec 17, 2014, 8:42 AM ET

He may be president now, but Barack Obama says he's a black man who has been mistaken for the valet.

"There's no black male my age, who's a professional, who hasn't come out of a restaurant and is waiting for their car and somebody didn't hand them their car keys," Obama told People magazine in an interview out Wednesday. That happened to him, he said.

First lady Michelle Obama said her husband also once was mistaken for a waiter at a black-tie party and asked for coffee. She said even when she went to Target as first lady, a fellow shopper asked her to get something from a shelf.

"I think people forget that we've lived in the White House for six years," she said. "Before that, Barack Obama was a black man that lived on the South Side of Chicago, who had his share of troubles catching cabs."

How the hell did anybody in a Target store get close enough to the FLOTUS to ask her to get something off a shelf?

The SS is falling down on the job. Period.

I'll be asked to get something off the top shelf. I like it because usually I get called "young man." which I am no longer.

I also am [art of a group that meets at Barnes and Nobles. Hardly a week goes by that someone doesn't ask me where a book is. I used to say I don't work there. Now, I usually just try to find the book. I figure they're nice enough to let us meet there for free, I can help out when I can.

I assumed nothing that had to do with the past 6 years.

What is wrong with you people that look for every little thing on a post just to jump on it...is it because I have such a low post count or did you just read the whole thing wrong?

In fact, I have no idea as to what you are referring to.

And my abject, groveling apology for not responding earlier...I had to go out and missed your reply.

Sheesh...and people wonder why it's getting harder and harder to attract people to DU.

and this elderly white woman walked over to me and touched my blouse and wanted to know where she could find one - I gave her the how dare you look and she apologized. It is the assumptions that blow my mind.
In many of their minds we are not their equals.

Don't touch my hair and don't touch me! Hmph!

Tee hee - the first time someone did that to me - and my then boyfriend/now husband saw it? He slapped their hand. Older man.

He was shocked that someone would put his hands on 'what his' regardless of how 'fascinating' her hair is.

It being a fundraiser, it was packed with Wall Street people, who are used to having Obama at their beck and call and bending over to cater to every whim.

Sorry, not trying to make light of this at all, but this stuff been going on forever. It's not new, it just went underground until Obama got elected.

I was mistaken for a worker 3 times in a grocery store.

I have no idea why since Safeway obviously wear different uniforms than the kind of shirt I was wearing.
