How can North Korea attack American movie theaters?

the threat seems so strange to me. What exactly are they envisioning? Has North Korea carried out such attacks?

They supposedly have shown their ability to hack, but how is that a threat regarding safety in movie theaters?

to see it in a theater:

The Fall

They do not as a rule make movies any more that are this simultaneously full of the wonder and poignancy of film, story telling, life and love.

Can't praise it highly enough.

But we'll never be rid of nutjobs. This capitulation is absurd. On the other hand, there's no shortage of hostility in both Koreas toward Japan, Sony's ostensible home.

N. Korea's leader. Our government can't. 9-11 is proof our government can't ignore threats, they need to be investigated, evaluated and a plan of action or inaction drawn up by homeland security.

I would wonder what the potential is for North Korea to strike Japan. When you can't strike a desired target close allies often do the trick.

I am not clear where i stand on whether or not the movie should or should not be released .... but, i think ikits a lot more complicated than movie theaters

The ebola terror has waned some, ISIL seems to be running in place. Now,today and for the next few days really bad men might storm a movie theater in a reaign of terra. Screw that.
I refuse to live in fear of the unexpected. I wouldn't drive down the road for fear of an oncoming car swerving into my lane if I blanched at every 'maybe' or 'might have'.
I wish someone had the balls to show the film and I wish it was at a theater near me.

It's either that, or 'be afraid. Be very afraid. Every day, everywhere you go'

... I still recall when they were blamed for counterfeiting our money, which a number of news organizations were saying they weren't capable of doing, and that it likely was a cover story to prevent us finding out that the CIA was counterfeiting our own money to use it to fund a number of its secret operations, and trying to blame it on North Korea.

The theaters could potentially held liable for any damages caused by terrorist attacks. The lawsuits surrounding the Aurora Colorado shooting prove this. The risk of damages from lawsuits is much greater than any profits theaters stand to gain from showing the movie.

After all it takes only one agent to cause a lot of damage.

They are sent digitally to the individual theaters. If NK has hacked into that network, they could take down every theater that was showing the movie. Plus, they may have hacked Fandango or other websites that you pre-order tickets from - thereby having the credit cards of every person who bought tickets to that movie.

Who the heck knows it's obvious we need to invest more in Cyber and the NSA.

McCain Wants ‘Comprehensive Cybersecurity Legislation,’ Once Fought It

Riffing on the news over Sony pulling “The Interview” following a big cyber hack and threatened attack, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Thursday that Congress must “finally pass long-overdue comprehensive cybersecurity legislation.”

Flashback to 2012: McCain was perhaps the most vocal opponent of a comprehensive cybersecurity bill that advanced in the Senate.

Now, before going into too much detail about the extent of his opposition, it must be said that McCain was leader of a GOP group that had proposed a rival bill to the one sponsored by then-Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, I-Conn., Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Thomas R. Carper, D-Del. (they liked to joke about their “tripartisan” bill). So it’s not as if he was opposed to all comprehensive cybersecurity legislation.

Like #KONY2012 delivered US troops to work with the evil regime in Uganda. Like #SAVEOURGIRLS delivered US troops to Chad. Surely the #SONYNKHACK will deliver for our beloved pentagon and their creepy child the NSA.
