One hand giveth . . .

Yesterday's mail brought the official notice of my Social Security cost of living adjustment -- $13.

Today's mail brought a note from social services informing me that, in light of my vastly improved finances, my SNAP benefits will be reduced by $25.

Tidings of comfort and joy.

this is an annual dance that's been going on for many years. It's going to get even more fun when the landlord shows up for his increased cut of my "raise"; that's routine, also.

That may not seem like a lot to some people, but I know from experience it is. I don't know if there is anything you can do about this cut in benefits, but I really feel your pain.

I did receive my notice from Health and Human Services.

My SNAP (food stamps) benefits were cut $9.00 per month.

They are purposefully keeping us in extreme poverty.

I would love to see anyone in DC live on $1064.00 per month plus $99.00 per month in food stamps.

I still make mortgage payments.

I pay property taxes.

I pay for home insurance.

I pay for electric, phone service, the Internet and all other household expenses.

I am constantly stressed worrying about food and mortgage payments.

If I had been paid a decent wage my house would be paid for and I would have a nice bank account.

I don't need a lesson in economics.

I have been handling the family budget since I was 16 years old. (I am 61)

I can stretch a nickel into a quarter.

I can not stretch zero, nobody can.

They don't want us to get ahead or have any peace of mind.

This assault on the poor is intentional and evil.

I remember my mom telling me about one going up a buck, the other dropping by the same amount. This is the first I've heard of it being a net loss, though I'm hardly surprised.

If condolences could make a meal, I'd be sending you a feast right about now :/

Glad you're here. It's just stunning - the heartlessness of this! What the hell is WRONG with people? And these are the same people who can always be counted on to do the loudest bellowing in the room about what faithful exemplary God-fearing "Christians" they are. I'm so sorry to hear this ridiculous convolution of logic and compassion that you're forced to deal with, madamesilverspurs. This is NOT how it's supposed to be.

and do something about it.

Don't just "complain to the authorities" -- "the authorities" are who did it. But it's systemic and you can, together with your families, come together and change it.
