Rob Lowe facepalm

In a tweet on Wednesday, actor Rob Lowe compared Sony's decision to cancel the scheduled Dec. 25 release of "The Interview" to the strategic mistake that is widely blamed for emboldening Nazi Germany just before World War II.

Lowe said the cancellation of the movie, which followed a massive hack on Sony studios, would have made former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain "proud." The hackers posted messages indicating they objected to the film's mocking portrayal of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Chamberlain was infamously blamed for the policy of appeasement in which Britain allowed Adolf Hitler to seize territories in Europe in the late 1930s.

Lowe also claimed he saw Seth Rogen, one of the film's stars, at an airport on Wednesday. Lowe says they were both stunned. .............(more}

1. That's painting the story a specific way isn't it?

What he said sounds pretty accurate - in the sense that Chamberlain acceded to a Dictators requests and so did the Movie Showing establishment of America. The comparison breaks down if he suggested that Kim Jong II was, like Hitler, an expansionist who wanted to rule the world; clearly he's not. But he is a brutal dictator, and we've agreed to do what he wanted because we are afraid of him.

attack movie theaters he's not in danger-- theater patrons are.

I don't know if it was the correct decision to pull the movie, but I do know you don't be a hero with other people's lives.

I recently saw a documentary about high school kids holding off an entire North Korean invasion.

So there.

Because I labored for years under the mistaken notion that the Powers Boothe role was played by Michael Ironside.

4. In this I agree with Rob Lowe. Is it the skinny armed version or one with arm curtains?

Who cares?
Sony caved, and after this you can be damned sure that some movies will not get made simply because it might upset some crazy assed dictator. Many of those movies would have far more artistic merit than "The Interview."
I will think hard before I buy another Sony Product.

I don't support cowards.

Now, I need to tear into my closet, pull out my old Sony Walkman, and burn it in protest.

North Korea is going to be a strictly taboo topic in movies now, you can bet on it.
