Thanks Obama for my upcoming business plan!
I just need somebody with a big ass boat able to carry around 20-30 cars at a time. Go around Havana, offer people good cold hard cash for their rides and double or triple my money back in the states! Maybe Richard Rawlings would be a partner

(68,644 posts)No reason rich-ass Americans should take these beauties away from poor Cubans leaving them with, what? Modern cars that they can't repair?
No sir!
But I admit I like the idea up to that point.

What would a Cuban driven, American restored beauty like that run?

(146,317 posts)It won't work, though. Most owners wouldn't sell, and if they did, the prices would be high enough to make a profit impossible. There area actually fewer of those old American cars there than you'd thing, and most aren't in wonderful condition at all. New cars are being imported into Cuba regularly, from a wide range of manufacturers. I'm betting the prices that would be asked for any 50s and 60s cars there would shock you. Transportation costs and the restoration costs would make your plan economically unfeasible.

That is about top dollar for that car. Found some 50 Plymouths for $6500 that are four door and kind of rough...still, opening up markets is good!

(146,317 posts)a Toyota diesel engine. A lot of those cars have had their engines replaced with later model diesel engines, after the original became impossible to repair.
Thinking about it, odds are that the engine and transmission are transplants, with the rest of the driveline jerry-rigged to accommodate.
That one is a nice-looking ride, but the price is way too high for the U.S. market, especially when an original hemi V8 from that period and transmission got put back in. I'm sure there are many other alterations in the car, as well.
