The survey also found a partisan split on the issue of torture. Among Republicans, an overwhelming majority (80 percent) said the Bush-era practices were acceptable, while just 9 percent said they went too far. Among Democrats, 32 percent said the techniques were acceptable under the circumstances, while 44 percent said they were unacceptable.

The full results of the poll, conducted Dec. 10-14, will be released Wednesday.

Most White People Are Really Confident Their Local Police Treat Races Equally

Most white Americans think their police departments treat black and white people equally -- and some polling suggests recent events have left them more sure than ever.

An NBC/Marist poll released Sunday found that 52 percent of whites, compared with just 12 percent of blacks, have a great deal of confidence that police officers in their community treat blacks and whites equally. More broadly, 82 percent of blacks, and just 39 percent of whites, say law enforcement applies different standards to whites and blacks.

As The Washington Post's Scott Clement notes, while black Americans' ratings haven't changed all that much from past surveys, white confidence in officers' fairness appears to have actually grown 11 points from what was found in a September NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. It's now higher than it's been in six different surveys conducted by other pollsters, dating back to 1995

Only 1% of Fox News Viewers Are Black...92% Are White

Nielsen’s annual look at the racial breakdown of cable news viewers has arrived and once again there are some seriously sharp difference between the big three networks when it comes to the diversity of their viewers.

During the primetime hours of 8-11 p.m., MSNBC’s audience is 24% black, CNN’s audience is 16% black and Fox News’ audience is just 1% black. By comparison MSNBC’s primetime audience is 67% white while CNN’s is 73% white and Fox News’ is 92% white.

This Poll Shows America’s Stark Racial Divide Over the Police

According to a Gallup poll released Thursday, only 23% of nonwhites—largely made up of blacks and Hispanics—said they rated the honesty and ethical standards of police officers as “very high” or “high,” a 22-point drop from 2013. The views of non-Hispanic whites, however, remained virtually unchanged. Almost 60% said they rated cops’ ethical standards as very high or high.
