http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fundiefundie
1) Abbreviation of "fundamentalist";
2) Often a sola scriptura non-denominational born-again Christian;
3) Self-proclaimed "Jesus Freak" who spouts half-understood scripture at the drop of a hat;
4) General term for any teenage/preteen "pop" Christian who shows an extraordinary lack of tolerance/understanding for other religions (including any other denomination of Christianity);
there is a hell and anyone who doesnt accept Jesus as there personal savor is going there!!!!11! i'll pray 4 u!!!1!!!

For a deeper understanding of the slang term:
"The fundamentalists, also known as fundies or by their Latin classification Homo Phobius, are a subspecies of humanity distinguished by their phobia (simultaneous fear and hatred) of most people who differ from them in any way, based on their extreme religious conviction.
The threat of eternal physical torture in the mythical flaming demon zoo known as "Hell" is the fundies' primary method of insulting others. They base this conviction on millenia-old books of badly-written tribal customs, myths and genealogy which have been mistranslated many times by other fundies. In the case of the Muslim fundie, these books are contained in the Koran, while the Christian fundie worships the Bible.
The brain of the "Christian" fundie, while generally underdeveloped and often host of outlandish delusions, has a large capacity for memorization of Bible verses (or in the case of the Islamic fundie, Koran verses), often in the Shakespearian English of the King James Version, as this is less easily understood, and thus more easily twisted into the basic fundie message, which is "hate thy neighbor." Fundies, however, occasionally use the euphemism "love thy neighbor" (a rare example of non-literal fundie language) to convey the same idea."

(33,688 posts)the single greatest threat to the long term survival of the human species. The other is greed, and which you place first is best determined by the flip of a coin. They are 1A and 1B.
Only when humanity lets Iron Age superstition rust in the past where it belongs can the future be seen and embraced.

I kinda liked them.
Ya know what the problem is, Fred?
The problem is some of us, like you and me, while not necessarily smarter or having higher IQ's than a fundie, are evolved and mature to the point where we accept many truths that are understood with growth...
For instance:
1. Acknowledging that while guns are fun as hell to play with, they exist to kill people and animals, it is why they are made, and the negative of gun ownership is greater than the positive.
2. Whether homosexuals are born that way or not, it is none of my or your business telling them who they can love or marry. I believe they are born that way but I also have gay friends who say it is none of my business, and it isnt.
3. Humans are imperfect, they lie, cheat and most of them cant be trusted completely. Therefore pretending there can be a political candidate who is perfect, who can do everything just right and not be co-opted by the rich and powerful is a naive and immature attitude

(23,946 posts)I was once naive and immature, remember how we felt about certain leaders? And that same feeling was there in 2008, it can happen again.

(111,273 posts)and at least they looked the part. Unfortunately, the self proclaimed Jesus Freaks I knew wore Ban-Lon golf shirts and had short hair and even when they were trying to sell you salvation, their eyes would be constantly searching for new targets.
I didn't like them.
I do agree that #3 fit them well.
Your other assessments are spot on, as well.

(20,885 posts)I refer to people who are "dug in" on an issue, who are backed only by adhesion to some ideology or dogma. I have a friend, incidentally an atheist, who cannot accept the notion of climate change, because there is no solution that does not conflict with the free market. The more evidence he is presented with, the more inventive he gets about deflecting and equivocating the information. His arguments are parallels of those that are presented by religious fundies.
Wiki knows about them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_fundamentalism

(16,846 posts)a household word in America. When I hear the term "fundy," his ugly mug pops into my head. Self-righteous, hypocritical assholes who beat everyone about the head with the Bible -- that's how I describe them. As you said, they worship the Bible, not God. They're the micro-managers of the religious world.
