Before yesturday I went to my hometown main bookshop. I went on to check what was new in the "Politics and Society " section.
Didnt brought it but passed about a book from a French politics expert and teacher at Sciences Po (National Institutte of Political Studies) wich is untitleled " Bill and Hillary Clinton. Le mariage de l'amour et du pouvoir" ( Bill and Hillary Clinton. The wedding of love and power)
So I got a closer look inside.
Basically the book describes the Clintons as a more negative than positive portrait. Although the book aknowledge Bills charisma and Hillary s accoplishement both as First Lady and SoS.
It says basically that this couple wakes up every morning for those reasons. Power and name recognition. The authors comes back on 2004 when Bills speeches at the convention was more about boosting himself and Clinton fondation than a straight support of Kerry/Edwards ticket. It also backs the fact that after 2008 Hillary compiled an " enemy list" of those who first supported Obama. It also enlight the daker sides of Bill s tenure such as the Foster issue . But on strictly politically speaking it is globally cheering . Especially on the Clintons ability to stay popuoar for decades by building a monupental network around and for themselves.
So yes Bill and Hillary at the WH were good tipes of économic prosperity.
But on a personal level...I do agree with this globally negative. Although it might be sometimes overacted describing, yes...in our world when nastiness and hypocrisy copes vertue...you cant be a "good politician" if you are not a beast obsessed with your own fame. And that is very very sad.
