"Post Dixie Chicks Hypocrisy: Country Singers Are No Longer Traitors For Bashing President"

"Political humor is fine. Late-night talk show hosts and sketch comedy series make their living off of trashing politicians, left and right. There is nothing really wrong with taking a stand for your beliefs if you are an entertainer. At the same time, you should be prepared for criticism. (For the record, Paisley has expressed his support for Obama in the past.)

However, the country music world took a stand in 2003 when the Dixie Chicks commented at a concert that they were ashamed then-President George W. Bush was from the state of Texas. Immediately afterward, the band members were called traitors and un-American for criticizing a sitting president, especially during a period of unrest and inevitable war. (A war that Bush and Co. needlessly started, but I digress.) The main criticism that came the Dixie Chicks’ way from their peers, country music audiences and conservatives was that it was not patriotic and downright treasonous to take shots at the president."

At the 2011 show, racist Hank Jr. was brought on stage and given a standing ovation after bashing the President.

I've always been totally unimpressed and turned off with country. Damn, I tried to like it; as I used to do disc jockey music for weddings, reunions, parties, etc, and our goal was to always play music the crowd would dance to - and they often danced willingly to lots of country songs. But I suffered listening to the stupid lyrics and the simple beat of the 10cent songs they'd write. Figured it kept the dance floor going, but such light minded crap.

I tried to get into again when the Dixie Chicks made their statement, but it is was just as annoying and simple as ever. I actually think I like heavy metal better, and I HATE heavy metal. But watching this clip of a bunch of red-neck twangers applaud each other's simpleton humor just reinforced my lack of any appreciation for the country music industry as a whole.

Guess you can't please all the people all the time, eh?

His songs like "Ring of Fire" were so intense, with a great hook.

But most Country is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. Wasn't there a punk rock nightclub on the Sunset Strip that played country to clear the place out after last call?

By country music, I mean Cash, Haggard, George Jones, Ray Price, Patsy Cline, etc. That stuff is fantastic.

The shit they call country music today is redneck pop, plain and simple.

I guess I need to restate my post, since what I was referring to as sounding like nails on chalkboard is what you aptly call Redneck Pop. It's got as much to do with old school country music as Walmart has to do with a farmer's market.

My favorite break-up song EVER!

I know most country fucks are rw'ers (or at least pander to their mouth-breathing rw fans), but I thought Paisley leaned left.

She said something like "my faith and Christianity is what makes me a liberal". Of course they don't actually write the jokes on the teleprompter, but still.

His career has tanked, and he makes up the most vicious anti-Obama lies he can.

He also is back on the sauce, you can tell.

Paisley is confusing; he does this at award shows but praises Obama other times. Underwood is secretive - but probably votes Repuke even if she's a conservative Dem.

They were actively on the lookout for any female performers who spoke out against the war to turn her into the object of a "no more Jane Fonda's" foam-fest, and the Dixie Chicks fit the bill at just the right time.
