A Missouri lawmaker who filed a bill requiring women seeking abortions to obtain notarized consent from the man who impregnated them defended the measure in an interview with 41 Action News on Thursday.
It took two to come together and create a child, and right now the way it is the woman gets the full say and the father gets no say, and I think that that needs to change, Brattin said. With the womens movement for equal rights, well its swung so far we have now taken away the mans right and the say in their childs life. He added, Its a childs life thats taken. The womans life is not altered.
Brattins bill includes an exception for victims of legitimate rape who report the crime to the police.
Just like any rape, you have to report it, and you have to prove it, Brattin told Mother Jones earlier this month. So you couldnt just go and say, Oh yeah, I was raped, and get an abortion. It has to be a legitimate rape Im just saying if there was a legitimate rape, youre going to make a police report, just as if you were robbed.
Provisions that require women to prove the legitimately of sexually assault are a standard feature of state-level bans on Medicaid funding for abortion and many states force rape victims to produce a police report to obtain coverage for an abortion. Sexual assault prevention experts, however, point out that rape is a vastly underreported crime, with the majority of victims never reporting the assault to authorities. According to one study, just 37 percent of the women who qualify for eligible abortions under Medicaids exceptions actually end up getting their procedures funded by the program.
The bill, which is still in committee, would also establish a 72-hour waiting period for abortion procedures.

(9,527 posts)Apparently, he's really that bloody stupid that he thinks using the term legitimate rape is a good idea. Hopefully his constituents give him the same result Akin got in his next election.

(113,552 posts)does everyone else notice the use of "woman" and "father"-- very interesting.
by the way, you clueless, woman-hating pos--I don't see anything in your proposal that says that, if the man refuses his permission, he is required to sign a document saying that he is completely responsible financially for the woman and the forced offspring from the moment he forbids the abortion until that forced offspring is 22 or graduates from college, whichever is later. funny how the brat (sorry, brattin) wants the sperm depositor involved, but says nothing about that man's responsibility for what he demands.
oh, and I forgot to add that, if said forced-birther male reneges on his financial obligations, all his assets are seized, and he goes to jail.
I have already had my little chat with this clueless, woman-hating asshole.

we should be bowing down in humble gratitude for his generosity.

(42,008 posts)Let's see, that would that an actual arrest, arraignment and conviction right? A accusation and a police report simply won't do. By the time that gets accomplished, the good state of Missouri will forbid the rape anyway-- or the fetus will have been born.

(3,732 posts)Let Brattin decide whether he is up to being raped again by the system that constantly exposes you and puts you on display and makes you confront your attacker in public.
He just might want to deal with his pain privately.
Luckily, being male, he won't have to deal with the additional distress of carrying his rapist's child.

If all the Stupidity in this country could be transformed into clean energy we'd have enough for 100,000 years and warp drive by next summer.

(41,210 posts)This shows that, at least for this individual, the aim is not to protect the unborn, but to give men absolute power over women. If one is truly anti-abortion, why should male permission make a difference?
This man is a scumbag.
PS: WTF is 'legitimate rape'?
