It is loaned out to other credit union members to purchase cars boats motorcycles homes and other things. I get interest on both my savings and checking accounts. I have no fees and get ATM charges returned.

I get interest on several savings and checking accounts. I have no fees or ATM charges and get ATM charges from other institutions returned. I have a credit card with no foreign transaction fees. I have a brokerage account $0 online trades.
I dropped my credit union when they wanted to begin charging me for a savings account. Charging me to use my money did not make a lot of sense to me.
