Bishop To Use Christmas Homily To Attack John Lennon’s ‘Heart-Chilling Vision’ Of World Without Hell

A conservative bishop in England will uses his homily on Christmas Day to attack former Beatles star and peace activist John Lennon.

Bishop Mark Davies of Shrewsbury plans to say during Midnight Mass that the 1914 Christmas Day Truce during World War I proves that Lennon was wrong to link religion and war in his famous 1971 song “Imagine,” the Catholic Herald reported.

“The events of Christmas 1914 give the lie to the lazily repeated assertion that ‘religion is the cause of wars’. John Lennon would give voice to this ill-founded belief in the lyrics of his song Imagine,” he will say at Shrewsbury Cathedral.

“This becomes a heart-chilling vision in which Lennon imagines a world with no hope of heaven and no fear of hell. And he adds, ‘no religion too’. Only then, he suggests will ‘all the people’ be ‘living life in peace.’”

The atrocities of the past century were largely perpetrated by secularists following ideologies hostile to Christianity, according to Davies.

Lennon was right. We all would be better off without religion. Religion does start wars, and mass killings.

"We all would be better off without religion. Religion does start wars, and mass killings..."

And possessions... and nations, too. Which also start mass killings and wars. However, I do realize that would prevent far too many people from the priorities of console gaming and web-surfing-- so maybe editing Lennon's message is in the best interest of not only the minister in the OP, but in the responses to it also.

starts war. It is greed and ego. People just use religion as an excuse to start war. If there were no religion people would find many, many other reasons to fight.

LOL....I have said many times, the only reasons wars are ever started is for either ego or greed, and a "religious war" is nothing more than "Oh, you think your god is better than mine? Fuck you!" = ego, full stop

Over the last thousand years more people have been slaughtered in the name of "religion" than anything else. The human species will not progress until it gives up its childish attachment to Iron Age superstitions and unmitigated greed, which remain the two biggest threats to survival.

We needed to double the guard and the North Vietnamese were moving south for the Tet invasion.
Truce doesn't mean no war is being waged.

we can't control you and will have to turn to more ethical profession, like loan sharking or drug dealing.

Oh, and wasn't Hitler a Catholic? He was never excommunicated. Funny that.

It's also true that the opposition to those totalitarian states was overwhelmingly secular.

Religion was largely complicit in the atrocities, because its adherents are mostly cowards and hypocrites.
