(60,010 posts)4. I live in a magical place down here.
We watch these storms come in, at a sw to ne angle, and they look rather gruesome on the radar screen.
and then, as they approach our end of town, they divide and go around us.
90% of the time.
Meanwhile, north, south, east of us, heavy rains and wind.
As was true a little bit ago...dangerous looking deep red on the radar, all we got was 10 minutes of heavy down pours and a few distant booms of thunder.
We HAVE had a few bad hits, a couple of record lightening storms, yet even here it was not as bad as in other places.
Luckily, we are south of the usual tornado belt, again because the storm move at that angle, for the most part.

There were several reported tornadoes in the south today, including one in Mississippi that killed at least two people and injured several others and damaged homes, officials said.
It is unclear how they died, Marion County Coroner Norma Williamson said.
And another two deaths were confirmed in Jones County, Sheriff Alex Hodge said, noting the victims' mobile home was destroyed by the storm.
Five tornadoes were reported in Mississippi, while tornadoes also struck Georgia and Louisiana.
