Many of us already know what Giuliani, Pataki, National Review, Britebart etc have said about the deaths of Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu being the direct fault of President Obama and Mayor de Blasio.. but if you don't.. it's at the link. In the interest of rationed paragraphs I'm posting what the President and the Mayor of NYC have stated in regard to violence against police officers or any kind of violence..
Now, what did Mayor de Blasio and President Obama ACTUALLY say?
snip//
Back on November 24th, President Obama, as he addressed the nation after the non-indictment decision in the Michael Brown case, said:
Understand, our police officers put their lives on the line for us every single day. Theyve got a tough job to do to maintain public safety and hold accountable those who break the law. As they do their jobs in the coming days, they need to work with the community, not against the community, to distinguish the handful of people who may use the grand jurys decision as an excuse for violence.
He also said:
Those of you who are watching tonight understand that theres never an excuse for violence, particularly when there are a lot of people in goodwill out there who are willing to work on these issues.
The following day President Obama condemned violence again:
There are productive ways of responding and expressing those frustrations and there are destructive ways of responding. Burning buildings, torching cars, destroying property, putting people at risk. Thats destructive and theres no excuse for it. Those are criminal acts.
On December 17th Mayor de Blasio said:
You cannot talk about social change and then commit an act of violence against a police officer. It makes no sense. It denigrates the cause. It undermines the legitimacy. Its illegal, its wrong, its immoral.
Again on the 19th, a day before the killing of the officers, said:
This is what our democracy allows for, is people to make their voices heard peacefully, in an organized way and thats what this group and others have been doing. I made very clear that we cannot accept any violence against our police officers or against anyone. And they were very quick to affirm that they were appalled equally by the events on Saturday night. They find it unacceptable and they will work with the police to identify anyone who seeks to harm the police or harm anyone and undermine their non-violent peaceful progressive movement.

I really want people to remember that Bill de Blasio was blamed for police deaths by virtue of being a responsible parent to a black son.

As with the earlier iterations, this latest version of the stab-in-the-back has nothing to do with reality -- as your post amply demonstrates -- but everything to do with resentment (and crass opportunism).

(17,199 posts)And shame on the MSM.
His message was clear, again and again. I understand the frustration. But refrain from violence!
Instead the MSM ignored his pleas and has given voice to the far-right demagogues blaming the mayor for the deaths of the police officers.
Cha
(297,624 posts)And, like the Tweet said.. the only thing Mayor de Blasio did was talk responsibly to his son. Besides speak out against Police Violence, that is!
Thank you!

(17,199 posts)see your thread and cover this important story on their shows!
I can see Rachel reading quote after quote and saying, "Hey, Pat Lynch, what part of 'no violence against police' don't you understand?"
Cha
(297,624 posts)but it would make an brilliant factual report for the reality based viewers!
napkinz
(17,199 posts)I think their focus has been on the details of the tragedy ... what happened (Brinsley going to Baltimore and shooting his ex-girlfriend, then taking a bus to Brooklyn, shooting and killing the officers, then killing himself in the subway station), Brinsley's criminal history, biographies of and tributes to officers Ramos and Liu, the outrage over the executions, and yes the inflammatory rhetoric of many on the right.
But I don't think they had done a story challenging that rhetoric. (It's been only a few days since the killings, and there has been so much to cover about this story.)
So perhaps after the holidays, when MSNBC resumes its regular programing, Rachel and Lawrence will take up challenging that inflammatory rhetoric as you have so wonderfully done. I hope they do because it needs to be done.

(83,886 posts)Anyone saying the President and Mayor are condoning violence instead of condemning it are lying liars. That makes them the ones that are inciting the hate, the misinformation and yes, the violence as well!

(17,199 posts)They are driven by hate. Facts mean nothing to them.
There's a ton of hypocrisy here.
I posted a thread about another incident where two police officers were shot and killed.
But these officers were murdered by a white male who happened to be a member of the Tea Party and Bundy militia. And there was no outrage, no explosive media coverage. And what's crazy, no one blamed the groups he was associated with, when in FACT it was the ideology of those groups that spurred the murder of those two officers. There were no cries of "the Tea Party has blood on its hands."
talk about hypocrisy and double standard!

(51,076 posts)Electing a black man to the highest office was too much for them and they pulled out all stops. Its the media that causes the hate and discontent we all see all over the country today. Have you noticed that since the election there is no more ISIS and Ebola in the news 24/7, neither went away. What changed is the republiCONs took the senate and increased their lead in the house but other than that nothing changed. The media did their job and got the results they were looking for and thats the end of that story.
I've been saying since day one here at DU that we need to get the media out of the hands of the large corporations if we are to get any kind of relief from pukie policies being crammed down our throats. So far those calls from me haven't been met with much support here.
Its not rocket science what the problem in America is. Its not blacks, its not hispanics, its not whites, its not the poor, its the news media.

(51,076 posts)Just rubbing it in like they know that we know there isn't much we can do about it, providing we don't whip out another '60s on their asses. Through mass protest we can change things but it takes a lot more than any of our protest have had yet. The day is coming where we'll all feel we've been pushed as far as we're going, the line will be crossed. Ssomeone with a winning message will come around and first things first and in the end we'll have a more equitable system for all of us. Thats what has the rich worried today and that will explain some of the shit they do. Like buying off our politicians, all legal but unethical as hell. When you control every thing about our lives they can pretty much get the laws they want passed. In many other countries there would be a season on the bastards. methinks anyway

Boxing Day Snow Warnings
It said rain, sleet and snow are set to spread east across parts of Northern Ireland, England and Wales, before clearing in the evening and overnight.
Forecasters said there was a risk of several centimetres of snow even at low levels, and roads could turn very icy.

(17,199 posts)Giuliani said Obama has said "that everybody should hate the police."
Throughout all of his comments since August, when the latest unrest over racial disparities in the criminal justice system began, Obama has continuously encouraged working with police to find solutions and make change. He has also repeatedly emphasized the importance of law enforcement in communities of color and the fact that police officers have a dangerous job.
Giulianis claim is an outlandish distortion of what Obama actually said. We rate this Pants on Fire.
