For Christmas I got my brother back...

He's been my housemate for over ten years now. Exactly a week ago he was on a table in the operating room with a tumor being removed from his cerebrum. They thought it was the size of a tennis ball, but it was larger. They thought he would be on the table for four hours but it took close to eight...

This was his second cancer go around in the last three years. He was losing his balance and his vision was deteriorating. The tumor had to go but the outcome was very much in doubt.

I brought him home Monday and he sits now across the room in his recliner next to the woodstove. He'll need a walker for a few weeks, but last night we visited the local bar for happy hour. This week he'll order parts to get his Kawasaki ready for bike week in June.

This could have been a sad Christmas-I've had some. Instead I received a very special present-it seems Santa sent me one more summer to spend with my brother on two wheels. We never had a chance to shop and wrap gifts this year and there is no tree and are no glowing decorations. They seem now so small a part of the spirit of the season.

Christmas is, and always was about family and friends. I got my Christmas miracle-may each of you get yours.

Merry Christmas.

God Bless and Godspeed!

PS: Once I owned a Kawasaki 440. Bought used, it was missing a battery cover, needed tires, and the thing's starter failed after a couple days. So, it was a running start, where we'd get moving and I'd hop on and pop the clutch. What was weird, even though I lived in hilly Southern California, most everywhere I drove, it was flatland where I parked. Ran a lot by that red bike. Still think the world of the motorbike.

Merry Christmas to you.

My brother was in Cleveland Clinic Friday and had three stints replaced from the blocked ones he had in his heart. He's the baby of the family at 53 so we were all a bit worried. I'm so glad he made it through the surgery that was supposed to be 3 hrs and was 8 hrs instead too. He was in bad shape. He's going to work on his diet, exercise more and hopefully have a long life without constant chest pain. Yippee!

...and humbled by your response. It's easy to forget the many tragedies we see on the board until the possibility leaps up in our own lives. I would like to personally thank every poster for their responses and also those who recommended the thread. The fact that my brother is regaining his health drew such huge response reminds me of my larger family on this board and that I also have them to be thankful for. I always expected discussion here but the empathy exceeded my wildest dreams. Thank you all again. Cat
