Twitter is working for me - and I've been glued to Anonymous updates for 2 days now.

Lizard squad vs. Twitter? Where are you reading that? Dish please.

Checked 4 of those 'is it down' sites and they are all saying twitter is down right now. So I checked the comments and some people are saying lizard squad. I have no idea what that means. But I keep getting "sorry, something went wrong" error messages. This has happened before though. Is refreshing twitter working for you?

3. Twitter error kicks Android app users out of their accounts (from The Verge)

Something strange is happening to mobile Twitter. The social network's official Android app is currently kicking users out of their accounts, blocking their progress with an error when they try to log back in. Twitter's mobile website also appears affected by whatever issue is affecting the service, loading only a blank white page, while the Twitter-owned Tweetdeck client is reporting that every new tweet is more than 365 days old.

Twitter's desktop web client and iOS app appear to be functioning as normal, and although Tweetdeck thinks our tweets are a year old, the client is still showing new posts. It's not yet clear what's caused this odd error, but according to one Twitter user, Twitter's server may think it's already 2015. The company has acknowledged the issue, and a representative told The Verge that it would continue to provide updates to the situation on the Twitter status blog.

I don't use Twitter at all, but this JUST came across my news feed and I've already let others on DU know about it as well.

Glad I could help...

Its probably BS, most likely a glitch on twitters end affecting android users as poster above stated. I swear it feels like twitter is still beta sometimes. Thanks for the info as well.

I've actually been watching this action all weekend and posted a few times to DU about it.

Short version:
Lizard Squad made a DDoS attack on Xbox and Sony Playstation over Christmas - they apparently do this a lot.
Anonymous Protection got involved in trying to defend from that attack.
Lizard Squad then threatened the privacy system Tor (one thing Snowden relied on) and challenged Anonymous.
Anonymous was also mad because Lizard Squad had been claiming Anonymous works with the FBI and also had spun off a fake white hat group called Finest Squad which solicited donations to "fight" Lizard Squad.

Anonymous (the hacktivist wing) declared war and crushed Lizard Squad into road kill. It was pretty spectacular.

(you could watch this all live here: http://map.ipviking.com/)

This had real world reverbrations - Kim Dotcom bribed Lizard Squad with $300,000 worth of Mega accounts to stop their attack, North Korea's Internet went down for a second time (leading to questions about how it went down the first time), and several members of Lizard Squad were outed enough to be arrested.

The drama is still unfolding now. I haven't left the house in two days, even though I'm in desperate need of popcorn. This is great!

But it also has some serious implications for the way US has conducted diplomacy, re: Sony hacking. I've tried to post about that.

Just now I spotted a new group "Gecko Squad" who claims to have hacked twitter. This may or may not be true. Gecko Squad is probably the remnants of Lizard Squad.

Ps. I stumbled across all this as a byproduct of looking into the Anonymous claim that Sony had staged their hack as a publicity stunt. They still haven't shown why they believe that.

11. Anonymous says it's just a Twitter issue
Mon Dec 29, 2014, 12:27 AM

People were saying it was Lizard Squad because of that GeckoSquad account.

Anonymous says GeckoSquad is a troll. Twitter was just having technical difficulties. Servers think this is December 2015.

Also they warn about clicking on "Twitter Support" links - these are phishing.

Lizard Squad remains lizard meat roadkill. Still entertaining.

Didn't realize my twitter co-dependency issues until tonight. Seems like many still have outages. Twitter says they're working on it.
