Whether it be Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, or someone not yet in the discussion, Democrats are in no position to bargain with the Republicans.
It doesn't appear that the Democrats will get back the House anytime soon. However, it is very possible that the Senate will return to the Democrats in the next election. But it is of paramount importance that Democrats control the White House, at the very least.
Until these extremists in the Republican Party are defeated, there is little room to quibble, in my opinion. Whomever is the nominee of the Democratic Party, after all the primaries, we should support against the Republican Party. It is too important for anyone to sit out.
As Ben Franklin once noted, " We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

So, yes, a 3rd way Dem would appoint a progressive or liberal Justice.
This will happen because even a centrist Democrat is different from a Republican.

(22,000 posts)While I may vote for that person, it doesn't mean I have to lift a finger in any other way. In all of the elections since 1996 I have been highly involved (with the exception of 2004 as I had just arrived in Korea earlier in the year and had not connected with Democrats Abroad then). Certainly you can't blame people for their lack of enthusiasm when the nominee is far from a progressive.

(588 posts)as of now Senator Warren is the only potential Democratic candidate I would support.
Bernie is my #1 choice but he is not a Democrat but if he runs for POTUS he gets my money, vote and support.
Hillary, not so much, I won't even hold my nose to vote for her, I do not even care if my 1 vote will elect a republican POTUS. From my POV she is would be just as destructive or even worse then a pub as POTUS.
I see Hillary and her Wall Street Pals in Congress just as dangerous as the republicans.
The Democratic Wall Street crowd needs to be driven from the party in the same way the racists were driven from the party other wise the Democratic party will be no different then the republican.

(14,524 posts)... the same failed messaging is starting to be tried all over again.
Seems the clear lesson of November 2014 was once again wasted on some Democrats.
