And since you are reading the intent as such, our analogies are incompatible and any discussion would make no sense.

And, accused of being "purists" if they accept neither.

"Tell them that one axe is "Just as Bad" as the other. One of these is guaranteed to work!

I saw it as "the axe" being made up of two materials, two parts, two classes. The top, the part of society that rules because of its hardness, deadly force and power over the softer wood of the masses. ie. the Washington Republicans, the Supreme Court, the police, the military, the corporate press and the corporate lobby armies.

But the axe head is powerless without the collusion of at least some wood. There are always those in society, Fox viewers and tea baggers that are fooled into believing that by working for the .1% and help bash their fellow pleebs will one day pay off for them. Also included are the apathetic crowd that allows themselves to be used for whatever the axe-head chooses...because they refuse to help choose by voting.

So the statement "At least the handle is one of us" is tinged with black humor and sarcasm.

seriously, it calls out both sides, especially as it was in repsonse to someone pulling a cheap "we are the rightoues" bs

bear, who could not be as efficient at the killing without the help of one of the trees, is the real threat.

Interesting that this is cropped out, so one must concentrate their blame on the handle instead of those who run the plantation.

Rush
Hemispheres
The Trees

There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas

The trouble with the maples
And they're quite convinced they're right
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light

But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade

There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the maples scream, "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
The oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light

Now there's no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, ax and saw
