Medicare is selling private info to insurance agents

We know, cause we just got a letter from an insurance agent in Montgomery ( we live 2 hours away from there) soliciting us,
which stated that this month one of us got a letter from Medicare in this enrollment period.
That info, plus the name and address, was known only to Medicare.

Both of us are extremely pissed, and formulating a thoughtful reply to the insurance agent.

said they would and I could op-out if I jumped through some hoops, like call or register for some website.

I did op-out but was to late. I get all kinds of medical mail, emails and even phone calls for various things that are 'covered by my Insurance' if I want them.

It is not a bad thing as the insurance companies sometimes explain basic Medicare coverage better than the federal government.

Good luck.

SS/Medicare is just one arm of the Corporate system.

Quite obviously no one remembers that Soc. Sec. info was supposed to be private.
Indeed, SS numbers were never supposed to be used for ID for other things.
Now almost every system wants your number.

It's just a numbers game to sales folks. Not sure what can be done.
