It was a fun year to follow the Giants!

(17,656 posts)YOU, yes you, have to be one of the greatest DU members I have ever met on this forum!
EVAH!
I have been posting on this forum for over a decade now, and I have to tell you, I have come to the conclusion, after much thought, and after much consternation, and after reading all of your comments, almost all of your comments, most of your comments, some of the comments that you have made on this forum here, that you are truly one of the best members this forum has ever had!!
Without a doubt, you are the Number 1 DU member of all time, Number 2 member of all time, Number 3 member of all time.
Okay, maybe not, but one thing is for sure, you are in the TOP 5 best members of DU for all time, TOP 10 best members of DU for all time, TOP 25 best members of DU for all time!
Would you believe . . . the TOP 50 best members of DU for all time!
Honestly, I like you, and I want you to know that I think that you are truly a great person.
On top of that, most of all, if I may add to that, I really, really, really like you.
And if, perhaps some time next year, say sometime early in the year, early in the springtime, when the skies clear up, and the clouds are all big, puffy, and white, and the wind stops blowing in every different direction, and the sun comes out for the entire day, and it warms this whole big blue marble we live on, the one that we call "Earth", and you just happen to be taking a long walk through the park, early in the afternoon, strolling at your leisure, with nothing particular on your mind, taking your time, and enjoying the beauty of nature, and then when out of the corner of your eye, you just happen to notice something that gets your attention for a few seconds, and so then perhaps you may look off in that direction, just to see more clearly what it is that has somehow captured your attention, even if for just a few nano-seconds, and you just happen to see a big ol', hairy, ugly dog squatting, and pushing one huge, long turd out, one after another, I'd really appreciate it if you'd quietly whisper to yourself, "Man, that is one big pile of stinkin' dog shit!" . . and think of me!!
Happy New Year!!

(41,861 posts)Rooting for the San Jose Sharks, but I was so thrilled about the Giants, I didn't care who was playing what after that. Obviously the Raiders sucked, so maybe they will have a good draft pick this coming year.
happy new years!

(81,466 posts)I'm afraid I'm a total lox as far as following the games, the teams, the whatevers, etc. If I ever tune in to the Super Bowl it's really only for the commercials and to see who's entertaining at halftime. Otherwise, what I know about sports - either professional or college or whatever - you could fit on the head of a pin. I only know the Seattle Seahawks exist because my daughter's a big fan. And they ARE in Seattle - correct?

NEXT year has to be better!

(20,453 posts)I understand your friend's year through some of your posts here, and let's face it
we need a transitional year from how the world's citizen's have been treated.
If I could predict, 2015 will be that transitional year, therefore paving the way for BETTER ones!

which, I can agree, would be a year to have sung this tune.
But, each succeeding year, you would have thought, would be better.
When taken as a decade, I guess I was glad the first of the millennium's first one WAS over. Now, here we sit in the middle of the next decade, and where are we on this journey?
I'll have to defer it to wherever we are as citizens of the world. We ain't gonna take it anymore?
Maybe we mean it this time!

(59,225 posts)Mom died in October, the Republicans had a good election year and the Bay Area had the worst earthquake since 1989. On the bright side the Giants won the World Series, the 49ers got rid of Harbaugh and we were treated to three of the best hero movies (Winter Soldier, Guardians and Big Hero 6) yet.

(15,480 posts)My nearest and dearest have had to deal with some major health & personal issues, but we've all made it through, and with some very loving acts of kindness to and from others along the way. I have encountered some opportunities to do some very emotionally rewarding volunteer work in my community, and have gotten others to make similar commitments.
With all the greed and violence in our world, I still hold out hope for the future.
Hope is the thing with feathers -
By Emily Dickinson
Hope is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
Ive heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

(81,466 posts)I interviewed him once (and fell in love, of course) and he talked about how anything and everything is great as long as it isn't "the ol' dirt nap." I think, as I remember the quote, it was - "sure beats the ol' dirt nap!"
Years later, a woman I know spoke her own version: "anything above the dirt can be handled."
Can't really top that, 'eh? Sorta spells it all out at its very most basic.
Happy New Year to my DU brothers and sisters! And you're all honorary members of our "ACIDIC family," too! So THERE!

(10,893 posts)-I went broke during the past school semester paying for groceries and bills (and had to cut my cable off), and have no money saved up.
-my aunt died from pneumonia, and my mom was laid off from her job.
-I met a friendly and attractive woman online, but she happens to live near the epicenter of the Ukrainian conflict.
-the A's choked and didn't make the postseason after trading away their best player, and the Raiders yet again had one of the worst records.
-the GOP gained seats in Congress.
-the police nationwide have been killing unarmed people who look like me left and right.
On the plus side, I learned many things throughout the year to make myself a better man and have learned from personal mistakes and the mistakes of others. Here's to a brighter 2015.

(3,864 posts)- 30 maybe 50 or 100,
the feed-back loops ensure that regardless of what humans do, the laws of physics now take-over and there is no way to stop it.
and the dems have not taken the dramatic action that would have been necessary,
which is not to say that the repubs aren't worse, of course they are.
but now it is the difference between the human race has 30 years left or 100 years left, doesn't seem much of a difference.
