So a lil entitled Hedge Fund Manager's son shot his father

over his allowance. I'm betting the majority of DUers were not receiving allowances at age 30. My parents never ever paid or subsidized my rent.

Police said the son entered his parents' Beekman Place home Sunday afternoon and asked his mother to get him a sandwich.

Boyce said that the mother "had a bad feeling" after leaving the two men alone together and decided to return to the apartment, but when she came back she found her husband shot in the head in his bedroom.

enable the assumptions of entitlement. I hope for her sake that it was nothing more than that...but that was a very interesting comment. The rest of us would have sent him to the kitchen to make his sandwich or make it for him in our kitchen.

I have seen a lot of stories about them killing each other, because of greed, mostly, on true crime shows.

Even some teens have killed their whole families before, to try and get the inheritance.

He's also going to prison, but for considerably more than a spliff.

Do you have another point in mind? Care to share?

Before the responses: where did you read that the author of the OP was delighted? Where did you get the sense of a sort of blood vengence such as indicated in the "reply title" to your response?

My responses to how I read the tone, content and juxtaposition to the difference of the son's status and his treatment for drug offenses vs. those offenses of poor people/people of color.

First is the difference of how the rich kid was treated vs. how many PoC and poor first time drug offenders are treated by the Criminal Justice system. The "rule of law" crowd would assert that there is a given consequence for breaking specific laws - and that it is uniform (in its implementation.) Clearly it is not.

Second is the very tragic irony related to the first point: perhaps if a more serious consequence and/or intervention had occurred for the son, this event/the murder, would not have occurred. I would guess (but could be wrong) that the substance abuse issues were so extensive that they directly contributed to the mindset of the son. Thus more serious consequences, and interventions, may not have changed the addictions of the son - but it may have created the impetus for a more serious attempt at rehab, or for creating a different dynamic for how the parents interacted with the son. Or if not, he may have been incarcerated and thus not able to commit the murder of his father.

I reiterate - I do not see how you got to "delight" for the OP per the murder. I don't think that was her direct text or subtext at all. I read it as tragic irony.
