LOOK AT ME!

When your bloated ego outweighs your compassion and your humanity and your ability to respect the death of a fellow officer, their family, dear Gawd their children and all those that loved them, then you have lost your almighty soul.

You threw a childish tantrum. You act like recalcitrant Children. The duly elected DEMOCRATIC (White) Mayor wanted to protect his Black Family and obviously you could not handle the truth in what he said. Poor pitiful you. New York's finest?: No.

It was so much more important to you during those two funerals for us all of us to look at you! SEE ME SEE ME.

You have given us all proof positive that you are ugly uncaring and inhumane members of the NYPD. Your disrespect was glaring. It has shone a light on who you truly are.

You demand respect on the street. You demand your authority is respected and followed to the letter. You demand. You demand. You demand. Yet you give none of that, none at all.

Your suspects. You profile Them. You Kick Them. Taz Them. Strangle Them. Beat Them. Then you shoot Them.

May God forgive you your sins, I never will.

the families of 'one of their own' was beyond despicable. Adding to that, the disrespect shown to the Mayor because he dared to speak publicly about the talk parents of black youth are forced to have with their children because of the way police interact with them as opposed to how police interact with white youth. Their disrespect in this regard was also beyond despicable, imo.

There also needs to be tighter entrance requirements, psychology tests, etc, to weed out those who are looking for power instead of a need to serve, weed out those with racist, misogynist, homophobic, anti-semitic views, imo.

They dishonored their own fallen. They used their brethren as political pawns.

I am disgusted. They want to be more important than the institutionalized racism that people are protesting.

Officers Rafael Ramos & Wenjian Liu did not deserve to die.

Eric Garner did not deserve to die.

Somehow, these officers have decreed that turning their back at their funerals is more important than focusing on the fact that people are dying at the hands of the very people that NYC expects protection from.

Seriously disgusted.

55. Police funerals in New York have a large and solemn tradition.
Tue Jan 6, 2015, 08:30 AM
Jan 2015

Dating back to the 1840s.

They are major events and the procession is a virtual parade, an extremely somber occasion.

Had someone tried this at a cop funeral during the '60s, they would have caught a beating at the precinct cop bar after the funeral.

These officers are disrespectful of that tradition. Would they want that escapade at their own funerals?

They are disrespectful to the slain officers. Because they consider them as lesser officers, "tokens".

They're disrespectful to the families. The kids have learned that their fathers weren't treated with the same respect as other cops.

They're disrespectful to the mayor, because of his minority child (children?). Had a mayor with a white family made the same address on race relations, they would have chalked it up to "politicking" and ignored it beyond a few cynical locker-room jokes.

They're ultimately disrespectful to themselves and the shield they wear. Shows how much they care about the job.

17. To have authority... You must respect it. They mocked the tears of the families of the fallen:
Mon Jan 5, 2015, 10:47 PM
Jan 2015

(Wenjian Liu's widow, Pei Xia Chen, weeps while clutching a photo of her late husband.)

Liu's widow, Pei Xia Chen, said she had lost her "soul mate" and a "wonderful husband".

His father broke down at the funeral as he described how his only child would telephone after every shift during his seven years in the force to reassure his parents he was safe.

"You are the best son, you are the best husband," he said. "We are very proud of you, we love you forever."

He was his mother and father's ONLY CHILD. It's not noted how many, if any, of the NYPD came over to comfort the family while the Teabagger division pulled their stunt:

(A lone police officer could be seen facing forward as colleagues turned their backs on Mayor Bill de Blasio's speech in one section of the crowd.)

At least one man understood the funeral was to honor the fallen, and not make it about themselves. The Mayor spoke with respect of the higher calling Liu lived and died by:

Mayor de Blasio told the funeral service: "All of our city is heartbroken today."

Liu, 32, had lost his life while fighting for "all that is decent and good", he said. He paid tribute to a "young man who came here from China at the age of 12 in search of the American dream".

Consider the meaning of the words, "all that is decent and good." Then look at the shock, pain and sorrow in these faces. The loss of their brother is was made worse by this stunt.

It is a challenge to their own belief in their job. In coming days, how many will now feel separated from those who in their arrogance, turned their back on a fellow officer?

It wasn't just De Blasio they were turning their backs on. The Ramos and Liu's deaths were used as props to their mocking authority and to score political points.

For many years, due to China's policy. He joined came with is family at the age of twelve and became part of our nation.

No doubt he loved America and his job, trained for it and took it very seriously. His family did not deserve their show of bitterness to add to their pain.

The ones who made a circus of his death gave up their duty for the love of rightwing politics. And they have no shame.

NYPD Commish Bratton to Cops: Don’t Turn Backs on Mayor at Officer Liu’s Funeral

“A hero’s funeral is about grieving, not grievance,” Bratton wrote in the memo, obtained by the New York Post. After referencing the “act of disrespect” on the part of many officers who attended last week’s funeral, Bratton wrote, “I issue no mandates and I make no threats of discipline. But I remind you that when you don the uniform of this department, you are bound by the tradition, honor, and decency that go with it.”

Words have just failed me at the enormity of this mindless stunt* and the media response to it. Several cops from Santa Barbara County went to New York for the first funeral, taking advantage of the offer of free flights. I hope to Gods they did not participate in this disrespect.

* Mindless stunt: A nationwide funeral for two random fallen cops as a response to the deliberate murders by cops of hundreds and hundreds of men and boys of color. It's hard to criticize a funeral, isn't it? Because no one should die by violence, and we are accustomed to revering cops as the men and women who put their bodies between us and danger. Tthese two cops did nothing to deserve our disrespect. But their deaths are being used as a means of distracting us from the rest of the crimes against society, those being committed by their brothers in blue.

I've seen a lot of DU posts about how the families were disrespected, should be angry/sad, etc., but I haven't seen any comments from the family except for from a random uncle saying he understands how the cops feel.

While I understand DU'ers anger about this, if we're saying it's the family that's being affected, then I would use the family's reaction as my barometer, not my own.

But now all the United states, and New York constitutions and the people get in return is their backsides ?

These chumps have got to go since by turning thier backs literally on thier duties, they broke their oaths and they technically are no longer qualified to be police officers.

I found the one for my city too:

Oath of Office

Having been duly appointed a police officer of the City of **** and peace officer of the State of *****, I do solemnly swear that I will defend, enforce, and obey the Constitution and laws of the United States, the State of *****, and the Charter and Ordinances of the City of *****.
That I will obey the lawful orders of my superior officers and the regulations of the ***** Police Department.
That I will protect the rights, lives, and property of all citizens and uphold the honor of the police profession with my life if need be.
This I solemnly swear.

I Like this one better, but one can only hope they honor and keep their oaths these days with extreme skepticism.
